The World Youth Skills Day is observed globally on 15 July every year, This day is being celebrated in order to highlight the fundamental rights of the youth and to raise awareness about the importance of investing in youth skills development. Building on skills is great for young people who want to widen their net when looking at careers, that is why there are multiple ways that this can be achieved, from using their school classes to checking out the best online courses for what they are interested in, their reach should not be limited.
President Pranab Mukherjee has inaugurated the first edition of “India Skills Competition” on the occasion of World Youth Skill Day, held at the Pragati Maidan.
Aim of World Youth Skill Day
- The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) had established World Youth Skills Day in November 2014 To Create more awareness on training and the development of skills for the youth of today. Create better employment opportunities for the youth.
- Government aim to skill on a large scale with Speed and high standards in order to achieve its vision of a ‘Skilled India’.
- National Skill Development Mission was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 15, 2015; to create convergence across sectors and states in terms of skill training activities.
- The ministry is responsible for co-ordination of all skill development efforts across the country, removal of disconnect between demand and supply of skilled manpower, building the vocational and technical training framework, skill up-gradation, building of new skills, and innovative thinking not only for existing jobs but also jobs that are to be created.
THEME – World Youth Skill Day 2016
The World Youth Skills Day is observed globally on 15 July every year to raise awareness about the importance of investing in youth skills development.the United Nations is observing the day with a special event on the theme of “Skills Development to Improve Youth Employment.”
Understanding what works to support young people in today’s and tomorrow’s labor market through training and skills development will be key to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda, and will be at the center of this high-level event.
- The event will be facilitated by the UN Envoy on Youth, Ahmad Alhendawi, and will feature opening remarks from the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. The event is co-organized with the Permanent Missions of Portugal and Sri Lanka to the United Nations, UNESCO, and the International Labour Organization (ILO).
