World Welterweight title : Floyd Mayweather Jr defeats Manny Pacquiao

American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr defeated Manny Pacquiao of Philippines and won the unified World Welterweight title of World Boxing Council, World Boxing Organisation and World Boxing Association. The judges’ scores were: 118-110, 116-112, 116-112, all in favor of the Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The fight was termed as ‘Fight of the Century’ and was played at iconic MGM Grand, Las Vegas. This fight was also the highest watched and most revenue generating with almost 400 million dollars of all time.

This win has extended Mayweather’s winning spree with remarkable 19-year unbeaten record to 48-0, putting him within one fight of equaling Rocky Marciano’s legendary milestone of 49-0.

Pacquiao suffered the sixth loss of his career to go with 57 victories and two draws. Pacquiao made Mayweather work real hard for the victory and hit the American with some thundering lefts. Mayweather threw a total of 435 punches compared to 429 for Pacquiao and he connected on 34 percent of those to Pacquiao’s 19 percent.
