Wordsmith – D2G’s Glossary Ep 25

Wordsmith is another initiative by the DayTodayGK team. Vocabulary indeed plays an important part in our daily life. Albeit we all have knowledge but we are unable to communicate due to lack of confidence, linguistic abilities and most of the time, we are unable to understand the meaning of the particular word.

So, here we present D2G’s Glossary in which we will share 10 words daily and we would encourage you to do the same. With this, we can increase our knowledge and build our Vocabulary stronger.

1) Abnegate: adjective
Meaning : showing strong feeling ,  forceful, passionate ( तन्मय) Sentence: He vehemently denied the accusations and was released on bail.

2) Stigma : Noun
Meaning : a mark of disgrace or infamy; a stain or reproach, a visible sign or characteristic of a disease ( कलंक, धब्बा )
Sentence: It would be culpable to allow such a girl to enter on the world with such a stigma as being expelled from school would mean.

3) Grouch: Noun, Verb
Meaning : show discontent; complain, especially in an irritable way
or morose mood ( बड़बड़ाना, शिकायत करना )
Sentence: my only real grouch was that the children’s chorus was far less easy on the ear.

4) Invincible :Adjective
Meaning : too powerful to be defeated or overcome(अजेय) .
Sentence: Many companies don’t have bad weather closure policies; they expect that you be invincible .

5) Dogmatic : Adjective
Meaning : asserting opinions in a doctrinaire or arrogant manner; opinionated (कट्टर)
Sentence: I refuse to argue with someone so Dogmatic that he won’t listen to reason.

6) Renege :  verb
Meaning:  to go back on one’s word  ( मुकरना )
Sentence:  He has reneged on his promise.

7) Ravish : verb
Meaning: fill (someone) with intense delight;enrapture( अति उत्साहित करना)
Sentence: I was utterly ravished by the way she smiled.

8) Prodigious : adjective
Meaning: remarkably or impressively great in extent, size, or degree (असाधारण)
Sentence:His own prodigious creative talent was fuelled by the stuff of the everyday.

9)Insouciance : Noun
Meaning :  casual lack of concern; indifference ( लापरवाही)
Sentence:  They always seemed so blasé, so effortlessly cool; insouciant , suntanned, with great clothes.

10) Tantrum : Noun
Meaning : an uncontrolled outburst of anger and frustration, typically in a young child( गुस्से का आवेश)
Sentence: he has temper tantrums if he can’t get his own way.
