Dear Friends,
Wordsmith is another initiative by the DayTodayGK team. Vocabulary indeed plays an important part in our daily life. Albeit we all have knowledge but we are unable to communicate due to lack of confidence, linguistic abilities and most of the time, we are unable to understand the meaning of the particular word.
So, here we present D2G’s Glossary in which we will share 10 words daily and we would encourage you to do the same. With this, we can increase our knowledge and build our Vocabulary stronger.
D2G’s Glossary- Episode 15
1. Avalanche: Noun, Verb
Meaning:a slide of large masses of snow and ice and mud down a mountain, sudden arrival or occurrence of something in overwhelming quantities, a mass of something.( पहाड़ से गिरता हुआ बर्फ का ढेर) (பனிச்சரிவு) (ఆకస్మిక,హిమపాతం)
Sentence: She had avalanche of friend request pending.
2. Smug: Adjective
Meaning: having or showing an excessive pride in oneself or one’s achievements.(आत्मतुष्टि से पूर्ण) (ஆரவாரமான) (ఆత్మసంతృప్తిగల)
Sentence: She felt smug after clearing UPSC.
3. Sculpt: Verb
Meaning:create or represent (something) by carving, casting, or other shaping techniques.( रूप देना) (சிற்பக்கலை) (చెక్కడం)
Sentence: He sculpted a beautiful flower.
4. Bland: Adjective
Meaning:lacking strong features or characteristics and therefore uninteresting.(बेस्वाद) (எரிச்சலற்ற) (మృదువైన, కోపంగా)
Sentence: After hearing a bland song, she stared at him angrily.
5. Steady: Verb, Noun, adjective and exclamation.
Meaning: firmly fixed, supported, or balanced(स्थिर) (உறுதியான) (ఒకే మాదిరిగా ఉన్న, క్రమం తప్పని)
Sentence: She always take deep breath to make her nerves steady and easy.
6. Gait: Noun
Meaning: a person’s manner of walking. (चाल) (நடக்கும் பாணி) (డుచునపుడు వేసే అడుగుల విధానం)
Sentence: She walked with a positive gait on the ramp.
7. Burrow: Noun, verb
Meaning: (of an animal) make a hole or tunnel, typically for use as a dwelling.(खोदना) (மண் எடுத்த குழி) (బొక్క,రంధ్రము కలుగుచేసుట)
Sentence:Rabbits usually burrow the barren land.
8. Insistent: Adjective
Meaning: insisting on or demanding something.(हठपूर्ण) (நிலைத்த) (పట్టుబట్టాయి)
Sentence: A telephone started ringing, loud and insistent.
9. Filthy: Adjective, Adverb
Meaning: disgustingly dirty. (बहुत ही खराब) (அசுத்தமான) (మురికిగా, అశుద్ధముగావుండే)
Sentence: He has a filthy home.
10. Somber: Adjective
Meaning: dark or dull in colour or tone.(अंधकारपूर्ण) (துயரம் நிறைந்த) (నిరుత్సాహ, విచారముగానున్న)
Sentence: We walked under the grace of somber moonlight.
