Dear Friends,
Wordsmith is another initiative by the DayTodayGK team. Vocabulary indeed plays an important part in our daily life. Albeit we all have knowledge but we are unable to communicate due to lack of confidence, linguistic abilities and most of the time, we are unable to understand the meaning of the particular word.
So, here we present D2G’s Glossary in which we will share 10 words daily and we would encourage you to do the same. With this, we can increase our knowledge and build our Vocabulary stronger.
D2G’s Glossary- Episode 13
1. Resilient (Adjective)
able to withstand or recover quickly from difficult conditions.(लचीला) (விரிவாற்றலுடைய) (తట్టుకోగలదని)
Sentence: “babies are generally far more resilient than new parents realize”
2. Reluctant:Adjective
unwilling and hesitant.(अनिच्छुक) (ஆர்வமற்ற) (అయిష్టముగా, అసంతృప్తిగా)
She seemed reluctant to marriage.
3. Senile: Adjective
(of a person) having or showing the weaknesses or diseases of old age, especially a loss of mental faculties.( बुढ़ापे के कारण सठियाया हुआ) (முதுமைத் தளர்ச்சியுற்ற) (వృద్ధాప్యము, వృద్ధాప్యమునకు చెందిన)
It is hard for a woman to cope with senile husband.
4. Desiccate: Verb
remove the moisture from (something), typically in order to preserve it.(शुष्क) (உலர்த்து) (ఎండబెట్టు)
She likes desiccate grapes
5. Enervate: Verb, Adjective
make (someone) feel drained of energy or vitality. (हतोत्साह करना) (ஊக்கம் குறைந்த) (శక్తి పారుదల అనుభూతి)
the enervate slightness of his frail form.
6. Devitalize: Verb
deprive of strength and vigour.(निर्जीव करना) ( உயிராற்றல் அற்றதாக்கு) (-బలం అందకుండా)
His opinions, whatever they are, do not devitalize his fiction.
7. Cosset: verb
care for and protect in an overindulgent way.(खूब लाड़ प्यार करना) (செல்வமாக வளர்க்கப்படும்) (తృప్తిగా రక్షించడ0)
His mother cosseted him
8. Trance: Noun, verb
a half-conscious state characterized by an absence of response to external stimuli, typically as induced by hypnosis or entered by a medium(मूर्च्छा) (மெய்மறதி , நினை விழந்த நிலை) (సృహ తప్పిన స్ధితి)
9. Stupor: Noun
A state of near unconsciousness or insensibility.(मूर्छा) (மதிமயக்க நிலை) (సగమో లేక పూర్తిగానో తెలివితో లేకుండుట)
I was always a drunken stupor.
10. Tutelage: Noun
Protection or authority over someone or something.(संरक्षण) (பாதுகாப்புக்குட்பட்ட நிலை) (ఇతరుల రక్షణ కింద ఉండుట)
The organisation remained under the government tutelage.
