Wordsmith is the new initiative by the DayTodayGK team. Vocabulary indeed plays an important part in our daily life. Albeit we all have knowledge but we are unable to communicate due to lack of confidence, linguistic abilities and most of the time, we are unable to understand the meaning of the particular word.
So, here we present D2G’s Glossary in which we will share 10 words daily and we would encourage you to do the same. With this, we can increase our knowledge and build our Vocabulary stronger.
D2G’s Glossary- Episode 11
1. Exaggerate : (Verb)
Meaning: Overstate. ( बढ़ा चढ़ाकर कहना) (மிகைபடக்கூறு) (పెంచి చెప్పు,అతిశయంగాచెప్పు)
Sentence: He exaggerates the stories to make them interesting for children.
2. Stout: (Adjective)
Meaning: fat. (मोटा) (முரடான or பருத்த உடலுடைய) (లావైన)
Sentence: He is a stout person.
3. Mar: (Verb)
Meaning: Spoil (बिगाड़ देना) (முழுதும் பாழ்படுத்து) (పాడు,నాశనం చేయు)
Sentence: The earthquake marred the town.
4. Elucidation: (Noun)
Meaning: Clarification. (विवरण) (விவரித்தல்) (వివరణం)
Sentence: Will you please elucidate the conversation to me?
5. Discreet: (Noun)
Meaning: Careful. (पृथक) (முன் விழிப்புடைய) (మాటలోను, ఆచరణలోను చాలా జాగ్రత్త గల)
Sentence:I should make few discreet enquiries about him before I marry.
6. Sullen: (Adjective)
Meaning: bad-tempered and sulky.(रूठा हुआ) (முரண்ட பிடிக்கிற) (విచారగ్రస్తుడైన,కోపమానసుడైన)
Sentence: All my attempts to amuse the children were met with sullen scowls.
7. Rumpus: (Noun)
Meaning: a noisy disturbance. (उपद्रव ) (குழப்பம்) (గందరగోళము, ఆందోళన)
Sentence: There was a great rumpus in her engagement party.
8. Impertinent: (Adjective)
Meaning: Rude. (दृष्ट) (தகாத, முறைகெட்ட) (అమర్యాదైన)
Sentence: An impertinent Question.
9. Rendezvous: (Noun, verb)
Meaning: Meeting. (पूर्वनिश्चित समय और स्थान पर मिलना) (ஒன்று கூடுமிடம்) (సంకోచము)
Sentence:I rendezvoused with Bea as planned.
10. Spasm: (Noun)
Meaning: characterized by exaggerated or affected politeness . (अतिसंकुंचन) ( திடீர்வலித் துடிப்பு) (ఆకస్మిక చైతన్యము,ఆకస్మిక ఉద్రేకము)
Sentence: Due to overload of physical work a person can suffer from spasms.
