Williams sisters win their sixth Wimbledon title

Wimbledon doubles championshipThe American siblings “Serena and Venus Williams” won their 6 Wimbledon doubles championship and 14th Grand Slam title as a pair.by defeating fifth-seeded Timea Babos of Hungary and Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan 6-3, 6-4, in London, England. Serena heads home from the All England Club with two trophies: The doubles final started a little more than 3 hours after she beat Angelique Kerber for the singles championship.

  • It was the fourth time that Serena won both titles at Wimbledon in the same year.
  • The Williams sisters also won the doubles title at Wimbledon in 2000, 2002, 2008, 2009 and 2012, and each time, one of them also won the singles championship. 
  • The Williams sisters are planning to compete in doubles, in addition to singles, at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics next month.
  • The Williams sisters tally of 14 titles means now only Martina Navratilova and Pam Schriver have more as a pair.
