Early Life and Joining the Army

Charan Singh was born on September 7, 1924. He joined the Indian Army at just 18 years old, on August 26, 1942, during the intense period of World War II. His military journey began at Firozepur Cantonment, when India was heavily involved in supporting the Allied forces in the global conflict.

He served in the Army Service Corps for 17 years, playing a key role during the war. His service took him to various locations, including Singapore and Lahore, before he eventually concluded his career at Yol Cantonment in Himachal Pradesh.

Awards and Recognition

During his service, Charan Singh was recognized for his bravery and commitment. Notably, he received the Burma Star Award for his role in the Burma campaign during World War II and the Indian Independence Medal. After serving for 17 years, he retired from the Indian Army on May 17, 1959. Today, he resides in Dekwala village, Himachal Pradesh, where he enjoys the company of his family, including his four sons and two daughters.

To mark his 100th birthday, a special team from the Indian Army, led by a Brigadier, visited Charan Singh at his home.
