Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag has been appointed mentor of the Kings XI Punjab for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL). Sehwag will work closely with head coach Sanjay Bangar and would be responsible for guiding and motivating the squad. Sehwag represented the same franchise as their opening batsman in the previous two seasons. Kings XI Punjab faced a disappointing exit from the group league itself finishing at the bottom of the table.
Sehwag bade a final goodbye to international cricket saying that he will not make any further appearances in any format of the game, including IPL as a player and will continue First Class cricket. He let the news out in public on his 37th birthday- on October 20, 2015. The player is known for his destructive innings and unique style of using less footwork while batting.
The 37-year-old is currently playing in the Masters Champions League 2016, a T20 competition of cricket for retired cricketing legends.
