Vikram Gokhale to receive Vishnudas Bhave Award

Vikram Gokhale on 5 November 2015 was conferred with the prestigious Vishnudas Bhave Award at a ceremony held in Sangli, Maharashtra on the eve of Marathi Rangbhumi Din. Gokhale was honoured for his outstanding contribution to Marathi theatre. Prominent actress-singer Faiyaz Shaikh presented the award.

Gokhale has acted in noted Marathi films like “Lapandav”, “Kalat Nakalat”, “Vazir”, “Bala Gau Kashi Angar” and recently “Anumati”.

About Vikram Gokhale

  • He is is a well known Indian film, television and stage actor, notable for his roles in Marathi theatre and Hindi films and television.
  • He is the son of  Chandrakant Gokhale.
  • He was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2011 for his Acting in Theatre, given by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, India’s National Academy of Music, Dance & Drama.
  • In 2013, he won National Film Award for Best Actor category for his Marathi film Anumati.
  • He also runs a real estate firm, Sujata Farms in Pune.
  • He is also an active social worker.
  • His family has founded an organization about 23 years ago, which provides financial support for disabled soldiers, unaffected kids of leper parents, education of orphan children among other initiatives.

About Vishnudas Bhave Award

  • It is given in the memory of  pioneer Marathi dramatist Vishnudas Bhave. He was the leading dramatist of Maharashtra in India and the pioneer of Marathi theatre, as he staged the first Marathi-language play Sita Swayamvar in Sangli 1843.
