Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty became the Commandant of the Indian Naval Academy on January 15, 2024.

The journey of Vice Admiral McCarty in the Indian Navy began on July 1, 1989, when he was sent to serve. Over the years, he has made a name for himself in several jobs and responsibilities, showing great leadership and loyalty to the country.
Achievements in School
In 2005, the Vice Admiral graduated from the Defence Service Staff College in Wellington. In 2017, he graduated from the National Defence College in New Delhi. These schools were very important in developing his strategic thinking and getting him ready to be a leader in the Indian Navy.
Having expertise in “Guns and Missiles”
Early in his career, Vice Admiral McCarty made it clear that he was an expert in “Gunnery and Missiles.” He was on the team that brought INS Delhi into service and did specialist duty on a frontline guided missile destroyer, showing how skilled he was with naval weapons and technology.
Being in charge of different naval vessels
He has been in charge of a wide range of military vessels. Vice Admiral McCarty has shown that he is flexible and skilled at handling a wide range of ship types by being in charge of the Anti-Submarine Patrol Vessel INS Ajay, the Guided Missile Corvette INS Khanjar, and the Guided Missile Frigate INS Shivalik.
During his career, Vice Admiral McCarty has held important staff positions, such as Training Commander at the Naval Academy and Directing Staff at the Naval and Maritime Academy in Sri Lanka.
Notably, he was also India’s Defense Adviser to the Republic of Singapore and the Republic of the Philippines at the same time.
Planning strategically and taking charge
Vice Admiral McCarty was promoted to Flag Rank on February 10, 2020. From 2018 to 2020, he was a Commodore (Naval Plans).
In this job, he was very important in making the Indian Navy’s Plans for the Future, Money, and Acquisitions. After that, he was the Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff (Staff Requirements), where he was in charge of developing the Indian Navy’s capabilities and making decisions about its combat policy.
