VHP leader Ashok Singhal passes away




Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Ashok Singhal died on November 17. Singhal, who was diagnosed with right lower Lobe Pneumonia, was put on a ventilator on November 14 evening. Singhal was referred to the same hospital on October 20, but he was discharged after he showed signs of improvement. He was brought back last week after his condition deteriorated.

Who all visited him??
  • Home Minister Rajnath Singh and other leaders of the BJP had visited him at Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon.
  • Others who visited the hospital included BJP president Amit Shah, Yoga guru Baba Ramdev, Union ministers Harsh Vardhan, JP Nadda and Uma Bharti, Haryana’s Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki and Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
About Singhal:-
  • A bachelor and an RSS pracharak all his life, Singhal, adopted an aggressive style in the “kar sewak” campaign in the build up to the demolition of the Babri Masjid in December, 1992.
  • A metallurgy engineering graduate from Banaras Hindu University, he pitchforked the organisation in the Ayodhya Ram temple movement and sought to internationalise it by recruiting supporters and organising branches world wide.
  • The overseas supporters contributed immensely to the VHP campaign.
