The Uttar Pradesh government has earned a place in the Guinness World Records for planting the most number of plants in 24 hours. Under the Clean UP, Green UP initiative, the government had urged citizens and officials to plant saplings around 10 locations. The initiative was kicked off by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on November 7.
Within eight hours, 10.15 lakh plants were either planted among citizens and government official. The saplings were distributed across an area of about 850 hectares. The initiative was being supervised jointly by the forest and irrigation departments and the authorities in Noida and Greater Noida. Plants such as sheesham, kanji, pakar, neem, arjun, aonla, chilbil, imlee, bargad and peepal were being planted by residents, army personnel, and officials.
