If good exists in the world, there is bad around us too. If we believe in the living ought to believe in the dead too. We all have heard quite a few ghost stories from here and there. Some say there are real and some say it’s all jibber jabber. It all depends on whether you believe in them or not. Some people have even witnessed them in many places around the country. You might choose not to believe them but this list of 10 most haunted places in the country is bound to haunt you.

Mostly haunted places include cemeteries, abandoned houses or someplace where mass killing has happened but India’s most haunted places have a huge list which include forts, libraries, courts, universities etc. Just the aura of these places is full of scary vibes and anyone would hardly dare to go to these places.

1. BHANGARH FORT, ALWAR

When it comes to the most haunted places in India, Bhangarh fort tops them all because even the government has put up warning signs around the property so that people stay out of there. It is known for the legend of Tantrik Singhia and Princess Ratnavati. He tried to win her over with his magic but his plans soon came to the princess’s notice and she got him killed. He cursed the whole village to be roofless and that all residents of the fort to die.

Despite all this, people still visit the place trying to be very brave. Four college students went to the place at night and got into an accident saying they saw something on the road. Two of them died on spot and one is still in comma while the fourth one can’t speak properly and is handicapped. Spirits haunt the whole town and it is prohibited to go out at night.

2. KULDHARA, RAJASTHAN

Kuldhara is a haunted village in Rajasthan near Jaislmer. This place has been abandoned since the 19th century after people from nearby 83 villages along with people in Kuldhara vanished overnight. The legend says that the chief minister fell in love with a girl in the village and he threatened the villagers of increasing taxes if they failed to get him married to her. All the villagers left overnight and cursed the village so that no one could inhabit it. till today the village is deserted and no one has lived to tell the tale of any haunting that have happened in the area.

3. CHARLEVILLE MANSION, SHIMLA

This mansion is Shimla is almost a century old and was built during the British era. It was once rented by Officer Victor Bayley and his wife during that time, but little did he know that the mansion was already home to a poltergeist. This story got into his ears by some village locals and he went on a mission to check the story for himself. He locked the room in which maximum supernatural activity was known to have occurred in the past. Later on when he woke up in the morning and opened the room and the whole room was entirely destroyed. Later on many people have lived in the same mansion and stories have been reported by them but nothing extremely bad has been seen yet.

4. DUMAS BEACH, GUJARAT

The experience of a beach is supposed to be very soothing but that won’t happen at the Dumas Beach. The beach in Surat has been a burial ground since a long time and even its sand has turned black because of all the ashes. It has been a place where tortured souls reside. It will probably be the last place you would want to be at after the sun goes down. It is amazingly beautiful in the morning but at night heart wrenching sounds can be heard that could haunt you for the rest of your life.

Some people have heard whispers of other people talking while they were alone on the beach. It is another most talked of haunted place in the country. Also, you might use your domestic flight offers and fly down and experience all of it anytime soon; if you are a mystery lover.

5. SHANIWARDA FORT, PUNE

One of the biggest forts in Maharashtra is known to be haunted. The great architecture of the fort comes along with some spooky stories that have been told by a lot of people who have experienced it. The stories are backed up by the legend that says that a prince was murdered here brutally. As the night falls, sounds of screaming can be heard which allegedly believed to be the spirit of the young prince. Some villagers camp on the grounds of the fort so that they can hear the shrieking sounds f the spirit. People are not advised to visit the area after sun down and the supernatural activities are known to be at peak at every full moon night. If you wish to still visit the fort, you can do that during day time. At night the fort is completely deserted except for maybe a caretaker.

6. DOW HILL, WEST BENGAL

The serene beauty of this hill station will behold you then and there but the haunted stories might stop you from going forward to experience it. The place has experienced many murders and killings and is a prominent haunted location. It is highly famous for the forest which is haunted and the old Victoria Boys High School which is almost a century old.

Many villagers have seen a headless boy running around and scaring people. Evil laughs have been heard even when someone wasn’t around in the school and at night time especially. Ghosts of other children have also been seen in the school, and around it. During vacation time, footsteps have been heard and shrieks of children are a common thing.

7. FERNHILL HOTEL, OOTY

This hotel became famous after the movie Raaz was shot in it. It is the most believed ghost story as experiences have been shared by Bipasha Basu herself. During the shooting, many actors stayed in the hotel and many of them complained about furniture being moved around on the floor above them. They tried complaining about the noises and calling the reception but the phone turned out to be dead.

Some of them even went down to the reception and turns out there were no floor above their room from where the voices were apparently coming. Being a luxury hotel in Ooty, the story of the hotel isn’t as well known but the mystery about it still a mystery.

8. TOWERS OF SILENCE, MUMBAI

This tower isn’t exactly like a normal tower; it is a Parsi cemetery where on top of the tower the dead bodies are left to be fed by the vultures. This particular practice is a part of the Parsi ritual that happens in Malabar Hills. This is why the place around and inside the tower area is known to be haunted. Another haunted story has been connected to the place. The Grand Parrari towers is very near to the cemetery and people believe that the haunting happening in Parrari are because of spirits emerging from the cemetery.

Although, the building is also known for a suicide case that happened. There is a flat that remains locked in the building which is known to be haunted. Otherwise, sounds of foot step, screams and knocks on the door is a common occurrence which are connected to the towers of silence.

9. MALCHA MAHAL, DELHI

This site is very famous in the Delhi NCR area known for it haunting. The area is that scary that the government has allowed the officers to shoot down anyone who seems to be a threat. People don’t visit the area for this reason as well. Mainly it was a hunting lodge in the time when the Tughlaq’s ruled. The ghost that haunts the Mahal is of Princess Wilayat Mahal, who didn’t get her estate back after independence, drank grounded diamond and committed suicide. Her ghost haunts the area and anyone who enters without permission never returned alive. Even officers who guard the area are scared of going inside. The truth is yet to be revealed but it still considered as one of the most haunted.

10. KUNDANBAGH WITCHES’ LAIR, HYDERABAD

The story starts with a 2 storey house situated in Kundanbagh of Hyderabad. It was when a thief tried to break into the house but to his disappointment he found three dead bodies in the house. These dead bodies are believed to be of a mother and her two daughters who lived there. The police was called by the thief and they dated the time of time to be around three months before discovery. The three women have been seen by the neighbours even before the day of the break in and candles have been seen being lit at midnight. The house has been declared haunted and hasn’t been inhabited till now.
