The National Handloom Development Corporation Ltd. (NHDC) has decided to implement an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system for its commercial activities for the benefit of their handloom weavers. This kind of software, often promoted by experts in the industry such as Syte Consulting Group, helps improve workflow and efficiency in the corporate world. But how does it achieve this?
An ERP system handles many aspects of manufacturing such as the supply chain, HR activities, and financial aspects of the business. ERP software essentially centralizes company data and allows for the automation of certain tasks in the areas previously mentioned. This has the benefit of reducing time spent on tasks and free up administrative employee time for more important tasks.
Because ERP is often a highly specialized system ERP consultants are often needed to help manufacturing and supply industries obtain the right one to suit their business’ needs. However, the benefits of having the system itself often outweigh any time and money costs as a result of implementing ERP software.
Benefits of an ERP System:
- Weavers will gain from quicker delivery of NHDC material.
- It will also result in higher transparency and accountability, making the corporation’s activities visible for all stakeholders.
- All processes – such as indenting, purchase order generation and invoice generation – will be performed through the ERP system itself.
- The elimination of paperwork and streamlining and transparency of the process will improve the efficiency and responsiveness of the supply chain.
- Procurement, inventory management and demand forecasting will also improve, resulting in high quality customer service.
- Mills will also be integrated in the system, in order to ensure that indenting and order confirmation are a part of the online ERP system.
- ERP will be available in Hindi and local languages for the benefit of weavers.
It is hoped by the NHDC that their new ERP system will improve productivity, increase efficiencies, decrease costs and streamline supply of raw material processes. The overall goal of course is for the NHDC to continue it’s growth as a prosperous company.
In addition to NHDC, all other stakeholders such as mills, transporters, societies, weavers, Office of Development Commissioner (Handlooms), will have direct access to the information in the ERP system. The system will provide real-time information on NHDC activities occurring in all the parts of the country.
