The second phase of two-week long Haritha Haram programme of Telangana government has launched today. Haritha Haram programme of Telangana government aimed to plant 46 crore plants to improve green belt. The State Government planned to plant a record 46 crore saplings, including 25 lakh in Hyderabad, during the season. Another record that was targeted was plantation over 163 kms of highway by over a lakh of people on the first day.
As part of its five year programme to increase the forest cover in the state to 33 %, the government has selected Hyderabad – Vijayawada highway for a pilot project to plant trees on either side of highways. The Telangana Government has taken up this task with the help of all departments, institutions, Non-Government Organisations, school children and individuals and to implement this programme smoothly Telangana – AP borders was divided into 14 segments.
The state government has proposed to take up plantation on the two sides of the national highways to Mumbai, Warangal, Bengaluru and Nagpur in near future.
