Tamil Nadu bags e-Panchayat Puraskar Award

Tamil Nadu has bagged the 2014 e-Panchayat Puraskar award for developing a set of applications such as like PRIASoft, Local Government Directory, National Panchayat Portal, National Asset Directory and Plan Plus, which are useful for better administration of panchayati raj institutions.

The award comprises a cash prize of Rs. 20 lakh. The Tamil Nadu government had spent about Rs. 80 crore on hardware at panchayats towards implementation of the applications as well. The award was presented to Rural Development and Panchayat Raj secretary Gagandeep Singh Bedi by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a function in New Delhi.

K. Rajeswari Devadoss, president, Berahatty village of Coonoor block in The Nilgiris district, received the Rashtriya Gaurav Grama Sabha award and Rs. 10 lakh cash prize for outstanding performance through effective gram sabha.

  1. Mudikandam in Tiruchi,
  2. Kosavalampalayam in Tirupur,
  3. Kurudampalayam in Coimbatore,
  4. Burilar in Nilgris,
  5. Melapudukudi in Tuticorin
  6. Athipatti in Virudhunagar districts
Award winning Panchayat Unions
  1. Kadavur in Karur
  2. Thondamuthur in Coimbatore

The panchayat unions received Rs. 20 lakh each and village panchayats received a sum of Rs. 8 lakh each.
