Swachh Bharat Rankings : Mysore Tops the List

According to the performance ranking released by the Ministry of Urban Development, Mysore tops the list of cities in India that have met Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat mission’s targets in urban India. Among state capitals, Bengaluru comes first (number 7 in the list of all cities) and Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala was on second position (number 8 among all cities) while Patna scored the least at rank 429.

While among the metros, New Delhi Municipal Corporation is at 16th position with the Delhi Cantonment area a notch ahead at number 15th, Chennai at 61 and Greater Mumbai at a lowly 140. West Bengal has done well in the rankings with 25 cities/towns finding a place in the top 100. These rankings are based on the extent of open defecation and solid waste management practices, according to a government release.

  • Hassan, Mandya and Bengaluru from Karnataka

  • Gangtok ( Sikkim).
Swachh Bharat Mission
  • Launched in October 2014 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • It is the flagship sanitation programme of the NDA government.
  • The main objective is to bridge gaps between sewerage and solid waste management and construct several million toilets in the urban centres.
  • Central funding – Rs.14, 623 crore. GOI aims to build 1.4 crore household toilets, 2.5 lakh community toilets and 2.6 lakh public toilets by 2019.
