Namit Jain, IES topper who bagged AIR 1 has shared his secret mantra for the future aspirants. Let’s take a look.
What Was His Preparation Strategy?
As a believer of hard work more than luck, Namit Jain is someone who believes in giving his heart and soul to the job he is involved in. He pointed that with right amount of effort, it is possible to score more even if you start from scratch. He had a disciplined and focused approach to crack IES that he was more than happy to share with us all. Read on!
Coaching
As a civil engineer, he knew that the syllabus is vast and reading everything will only waste time and energy. So he left his job and enrolled for coaching in the regular classroom program of IES Master. He says that the study material provided by the coaching class helped him a lot in grasping the basic concepts and filter what was not relevant.
He advises the aspirants to avoid standard books and follow the coaching guide alone to succeed. The test series provided by the coaching has helped him in making proper selection of questions to attempt and the management of time in attempting the questions.
Study Plan
He says that making a study plan or following a similar pattern every day will end up in boredom and is sure to distract. He was able to avoid such boredom by making a study plan that involves picking up 1-2 topics every day from 5-6 different subjects. Apart from that he spent an hour each day to read current affairs books for GA.
Following a Timetable
According to the topper, preparation varies for those that attend coaching and those that never go for it. With coaching, it is easier to get conceptual clarity in a shorter span of time. He has the habit of taking short notes of the important formulas and concepts.
He says that spending 2-3 hours a day with a proper timetable in slots, allocating to cover a topic, will help you crack the exam. Also, he recommends to allocate the topics that require better conceptual clarity to weekends as that takes more time.
Practice Sessions
In line with most of the toppers, Namit says that practicing sincerely will not only help you achieve the goal but will also help in improvising the weak areas. He prepared for the conventional papers from the beginning and started focusing on the objectives only three months prior to the test series.
Apart from reading the short notes he took on concepts and formulas, he sat to solve the previous year question papers 2-3 times before giving the test. He adds that solving questions again and again will help you avoid forgetting the topics.
Making Note of Mistakes and Revision
Making note of the mistakes he would commit while practicing question papers have helped Namit avoid repetition of the same. According to him, revising topics regularly, each day is the key to remember all the concepts you have learnt else the effort made on learning will go in vain.
Accordingly, he used to revise with only short notes for some topics, followed by the notes he took on classes for certain topics and for others, he used to practice by solving questions. He was able to maintain a cycle that repeats every 15 days which made him revise efficiently.
What Are His Future Plans?
Even though Namit has cracked several exams before, he prefers to join IES as it was his life’s dream. Apart from that, he has developed 5 crash courses for ESE aspirants by providing easy to grasp lessons for the same on behalf of Unacademy, an online platform for learning in order to help candidates with self-study.
To emphasize: sincerity, discipline, hard work, and consistency is what will help you in your journey to succeed in IES. Good Luck!
