Senior scientist Srivari Chandrasekhar has been appointed as the Director of the CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT). He was named to the top post by PM Narendra Modi, who is the default President of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). The CSIR functions under Union Ministry of Science and Technology.

- He joined IICT in 1986 as a Junior Research Fellow and grew up to the level of Chief Scientist in 2010.
- He has been leading one of the largest groups at the IICT, Natural Products Chemistry.
- He has developed technologies for synthesis of latest anti-tuberculosis drug bedaquiline; anti-tumor and abortive drug mesoprostol and drug for treatment of schizophrenia asenapine.
- He has more than 250 publications with 5,000 citations to his credit.

- It is an autonomous body and India’s largest research and development (R&D) organisation.
- CSIR has 37 laboratories and 39 field stations or extension centres spread across the nation, with a collective staff of over 17,000.
