Sofia Kenin beats Belinda Bencic to claim Mallorca Open title

Aerica’s Sofia Kenin saved three championship points to win an exciting WTA Mallorca Open final in three sets. Kenin defeated Belinda Bencic to win 6-7 (2-7) 7-6 (7-5) 6-4. Kenin also has some Grand Slam form on her side, having beaten Serena Williams at the French Open, before being knocked out by eventual champion Ashleigh Barty in the fourth round.

Sofia “Sonya” Anna Kenin is an American professional tennis player. She has a career-high Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) ranking of No. 28 in the world. Kenin has won two WTA singles titles. Kenin was a child prodigy, with her ability attracting the attention of veteran coach Rick Macci at the age of five.

She has reached three WTA singles finals in 2019, and also won her first titles in both singles and doubles early in the year. Her best result at a Grand Slam tournament came at the 2019 French Open, where she defeated Serena Williams and made it to the fourth round.
