Renowned singer Bhubaneswari Mishra passed away in New Delhi following a cardiac arrest at the age of 67. Though she was completely fit and fine, Ms Mishra passed away all of a sudden. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik condoled the sudden demise of Ms Mishra describing her as a “very talented artist”. She was popular both as a classical and a playback singer. Her sudden demise has cast a pall of gloom in the music industry.
The classical singer began her career with the song ‘Tiki Mora Naa Ti’ for the mythological Odia movie Krushna Sudama in the 1970s. Apart from many awards, Ms Mishra was also conferred with the Odisha State Film Award for best playback singer (female) for two consecutive terms in 1979 and 1980 for the movies Srikrushna Rasalila and Jay Ma Mangala respectively.
Some of her popular songs include ‘Itikili mitikili…’, ‘Tiki mora naa…’, ‘Jahna ra sindura gara…’, ‘Tume mora prabhu…’, ‘Pirati kie karichhi…’, ‘Jagatara natha Jagannatha…’, ‘Dayamayee mahamayee maa Mangala…’ and so on.
