Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik has given his approval for appointment of retired Indian Administrative Services(IAS) officer Shambhu Singh Yadav ,a close bureaucrat to the Mulayam Singh Yadav family, as the Up- Lokayukta ( deputy Lokayukta) of the state.
A Rajbhawan statement said the Governor gave his nod after a mutual agreement between Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Lokayukta Justice( Retd) Sanjay Mishra on the name of Sambhu Singh Yadav for the post.
- The post was vacant since the term of Swatantra Singh ended last year. Shambhu Singh Yadav, who had retired three years ago, is currently serving on extension.
- Swatantra Singh was appointed Up-Lokayukta on October 1, 2007 and served until the end of his term in September 2015. However, amendments in the Uttar Pradesh Lokayukta and Up-Lokayukta Act now allows the sitting Up-Lokayukta to continue until the new appointment has been finalised.
- Shambhu Singh Yadav, a 1997-batch IAS officer, previously served as special secretary to former Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav in the SP government in 2003 and was made Akhilesh’s secretary again in 2012.
