Arvind Panagariya to head panel to oversee revival of 3 urea plants
GOI has set up a committee, headed by NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Arvind Panagariya, to oversee the revival of three urea plants as well as the progress of Jagdishpur-Haldia gas pipeline. The three closed state-run urea plants are in Gorakhpur (UP), Sindri ( Jharkhand) and Barauni (Bihar). Gas to all these urea plants would be provided at the pooling price from the Jagdishpur-Haldia pipeline which requires an investment of Rs 5,000 crore.

UK hosts first Bhagvad Gita conference in London
The United Kingdom hosted the first Bhagvad Gita Conference at London. Indian and British experts came together with an aim to seek answers to the innumerable questions. The Indian Council of Cultural Relations and the High Commission of India organised the conference in collaboration with the Department of the Study of Religions at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.

Government’s holding in IDBI Bank to be reduced to 49%
The government has firmed up plans to bring down its holding in IDBI Bank to 49 per cent, marking a big bang start to its commitment to reform state-run banks. The department of financial services in the finance ministry is working on the details of the proposal. The government would follow the model of Axis Bank, India’s third-largest by market capitalisation, where the state owns a large stake indirectly but has no role in day-to-day operations.

Dr Uma Rajan honoured for her community services in Singapore
Uma Rajan, a 75-year-old Indian-Singaporean doctor has been honoured by the Indian community in Singapore, for contributing her 38 years in the healthcare and community services by building nursing homes and child health care. Dr. Uma Rajan became the first woman to receive the Community Champion Award.

Leonardo Dicaprio to receive SAG honour
Five-time Oscar nominee Leonardo DiCaprio will be honored by the Screen Actors Guild Foundation. The actor will receive the organization’s “Actors Inspiration Award” at a Nov. 5 event in Los Angeles. He will be honored for his work in films like The Wolf of Wall Street, The Aviator, Inception and Django Unchained, as well as for his charitable commitment to sustain the world’s oceans and forests through his Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation.

Lopez named first UN Global Advocate for Girls and Women
Singer-actress Jennifer Lopez has been named the first-ever global advocate for girls and women at the United Nations Foundation. The 46-year-old star will travel the globe in an attempt to highlight the plight of females struggling in war zones, refugee camps and even on the mean streets of her native New York, reported Marie Claire.

Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis win Guangzhou Open title
The world number one team of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis continued its dominating run by winning their sixth title of the year at the Guangzhou Open. The top seeds hammered Xu Shilin and You Xiaodi 6-3, 6-1 in the final to win their second WTA title in a row. It was Sania’s seventh title of the 2015 season and sixth with Hingis.

Volkswagen AG appoints Matthias Mueller as new CEO
The chairman of Porsche AG became CEO of the Volkswagen Group, which is caught in an emission cheating scandal. The Supervisory Board held a meeting in its headquarters in Wolfsburg and decided to appoint Matthias Mueller, 62, as CEO Volkswagen AG with immediate effect. Mueller will continue to act as chairman of Porsche AG until a successor has been found. Mueller is expected to steer the car maker out of the current difficult situation.

Facebook to test wireless broadband services in India
From being just a social media platform, Facebook is transforming itself as an enabler of Internet access through various initiatives aimed at reaching the next billion users. Facebook has announced that it has partnershiped with Internet Service Providers in India to launch wi-fi enabled broadband services in rural areas. Called Wi-Fi Express, the initiative is part of Facebook’s Internet.org platform as it looks to expand its user base beyond the saturated markets in the US and Europe.

CSIR-CIMAP, Lucknow Wins the CSIR Award for S&T Innovations for Rural Development – 2014
CSIR had instituted the “CSIR Award for S&T Innovations for Rural Development” in the year 2006 to recognize and honour S&T innovations that have helped transform the lives of rural people. CSIR Award for S&T Innovations for Rural Development (CAIRD) – 2014 is won by CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CSIR-CIMAP), Lucknow for “Enhancing incomes of farm communities through Vetiver based Technological Interventions”.
Bajaj Auto finally launches quadricycle named ‘Qute’
Bajaj Auto has launched its much-awaited RE60 quadricycle, which has been named ‘Qute’, at a free-on-board (FoB) price tag of $2,000 (around ₹1.35 lakh). The vehicle is meant only for export markets for now, as the regulations for India are not yet in place because of an ongoing public interest litigation in the Supreme Court. Qute is powered by an all new water-cooled DTSi, four-valve 217cc engine that has a fuel economy of 36 kmpl and a maximum speed of 70km per hour.
The vehicle will be shipped to 16 countries, including Turkey, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bangladesh, Kenya, Peru and Ecuador, starting early next month and will start with around 100 units initially.
