Marathi film Court selected as India’s official entry to Oscars

Marathi Movie “Court” will be India’s official entry to Oscar. The film will compete in the Best Foreign Film category at the Academy awards to be held in the year 2016. ‘Court’ presented a real and critical analysis of Indian legal system and judiciary through the eyes of a folk singer who stood trial after being charged of sedition. ‘Court’ won the coveted status following a marathon screening of over 40 films, spanning a week, in Hyderabad.

Swami Dayananda Saraswati Passes Away

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guru Swami Dayananda Saraswati has passed away at his ashram in Rishikesh. He was 85. He had been ailing for quite sometime. Modi had come to meet his ailing guru at his Rishikesh ashram on September 11. In 1962, he took ‘Sanyas’ to become Swami Dayananda Saraswati.

PM Narendra Modi in Ireland : Points to Note

PM Narendra Modi held talks with Irish counterpart Enda Kenny on wide ranging issues. India gained Ireland’s support for India’s membership of Nuclear Suppliers’ Group and other international export control regimes. Modi, the first Indian prime minister to visit Ireland since Jawaharlal Nehru in 1956, “This is a good start. Next time it won’t take 60 years for a PM to come to Ireland.” The Prime Minister said science and technology and education are two other areas where India and Ireland have a good history of cooperation, and where the two countries can do much more.

Companies can borrow money from pension funds and SWFs : RBI

In order to encourage overseas funding, RBI has proposed to allow domestic companies to borrow money from pension funds, sovereign wealth funds (SWFs) and insurance funds as part of the ECBs. The modifications in the External Commercial Borrowing (ECB) guidelines are aimed at replacing the ECB policy with a more rational and liberal framework.

Forbes India Rich List : Mukesh Ambani tops for 9th year

In the Forbes’ India Rich List, Industrialist Mukesh Ambani has been named India’s richest for ninth year in a row with a net worth of $18.9 billion. Ambani was followed by Sun Pharma’s Dilip Shanghvi as the second richest with a net worth of $18 billion, while Wipro’s Azim Premji retained his third place with $15.9 billion.  The ecommerce giant Flipkart’s founders made their debut on the country’s top 100 rich list.

Hidekichi Miyazaki – Japan’s ‘Golden Bolt’ stuns medical science to set world record

A Japanese man has raced into the Guinness World Records after running 100 m in 42.22 seconds in Kyoto, western Japan. Hidekichi Miyazaki – also known as the “Golden Bolt” – set the record in the over-105 age category, in which no mark had previously existed. Hidekichi Miyazaki, born on Sept. 22, 1910, turned 105 the day before the race.

Union Government gives nod to IAF’s Integrated Air Command & Control System (IACCS)

Union Government approved  Integrated Air Command & Control System (IACCS) with approximate Investment of Rs. 8,000-crore. Integrated Air Command & Control System (IACCS) is  a project of Indian Air force. Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) took the decision. PM Narendra Modi sanctioned the project which was proposed by Defence Acquisition Council(DAC).

WADA inks MoU with China’s Sports Ministry to crack down on supply of PEDS

WADA inks a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sports Ministry of China on 3rd May 2015. This MoU has been entered to shorten the manufacture of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDS) in the country. Currently, China is world’s top producer and exporter of PEDS. PEDS are openly sold online on Chinese websites and shipped to other countries around the world by regular mail.

NCC Enters Limca Book of Records

NCC or the National Cadet Corps has been presented the certificate by Limca Book of Records for the “Largest Yoga performance” simultaneously by a single uniformed youth organisation (NCC) at multiple venues on International Day of Yoga on 21 Jun 2015. The certificate was presented by Mrs Vijaya Ghose, Editor Limca Book of Records to Lt Gen A Chakravarty in the august presence of Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar. NCC created this record with 9,50,210 NCC cadets performing Yoga simultaneously at 1767 venues pan India on 21 Jun 2015.

West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi gets Additional Charge as Governor of Tripura

President Pranab Mukherjee appointed Keshari Nath Tripathi, the present Governor of West Bengal, to discharge the functions of the Governor of Tripura, in addition to his own duties, during the absence, on leave, of Tathagata Roy. BJP leader from West Bengal Tathagata Roy was sworn in as Tripura Governor on May 21 this year.

Contest for Logo, Name and Tagline for the Tribal Carnival

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs shall be organizing a “Tribal Carnival” from February 12 to 17, 2016 in New Delhi. The ministry has proposed to provide a name, a logo with related tag line for the Carnival. Suggestions have been invited from public through the website www.mygov.in to provide a suitable name, logo and tag line for the Carnival. The last date for submission of entries is September 28, 2015. The winning entry will be awarded a cash prize of Rs.30,000/-. In case of Multiple winners, the distribution of prizes will be divided as Rs. 15,000 for logo only, Rs. 7,500/- for name only and Rs. 7,500/- for tagline only.

EPFO Gets Skoch Awards for Smart Governance Initiatives

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) gets SKOCH Awards for Smart Governance for its initiatives on UAN Programme and Transformation of Social Security Agenda in India. EPFO was also awarded two SKOCH Order-of-Merit, one for launching UAN for EPFO members and another for transformation of Social Security Agenda in India.

Arvind Panagariya new Sherpa for G-20 talks

Government has decided to appoint NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Arvind Panagariya as the Sherpa for G-20 talks, replacing Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu. As per the practice, the Deputy Chairman of the erstwhile Planning Commission used to be the Sherpa for G-20 talks. During the a decade long UPA regime, former Deputy Chairman of the Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia was the sherpa for G-20 talks.

Telenor Group has announced that it had changed its brand identity along with legal company name from Uninor, its subsidiary in India, as Telenor India Communications Pvt. Ltd. The company headquartered in Oslo, Norway provides tele, data and media services in the Nordics, Central and Eastern Europe and Asia. In Asia it is operational in Thailand, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, India and Myanmar.
