SC upholds ban on Hijab and long sleeve in Pre-med test

SC has Refused to entertain plea of an Islamic organisation that Muslim girl applicants be allowed to wear ‘hijab’ in All India Pre-Medical Entrance Test on 25th July 2015. This court said the dress code has been made mandatory by CBSE in order to maintain the fair examination and this will apply to all the aspirants irrespective of their religion.

Earlier, the Kerala High Court had granted conditional permission to two Muslim girls to appear in the test wearing hijab. The High Court had refused to interfere with the dress code prescribed by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for students appearing for AIPMT to prevent malpractices.

“Faith is something different from wearing some kind of cloth,” a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice H L Dattu said.

The bench said: “The CBSE has come out with a dress code for the sake of keeping the examination fair and proper. It is a matter of three hours. You observe the dress code mandated by the CBSE for three hours and then wear the scarf as long as you want.”
