Director Ridley Scott will be honored with the 30th American Cinematheque award during the organization’s annual benefit gala October 14 at the Beverly Hilton. The event for the iconic director of films including Alien, Blade Runnerand most recently last year’s commercial and awards-garnering sci-fi pic The Martian will include in-person tributes from some of Scott’s colleagues and friends.
Scott was the unanimous choice of the Cinematheque Board of Directors selection committee, the group said in announcing the news. Reese Witherspoon was the honoree last year in the annual showcase that is always cream-of-the-crop stop on the honors circuit.
Scott received Academy Award director nominations for “Black Hawk Down,” “Gladiator” and “Thelma and Louise.” Othe directing credits include “Alien,” “Black Rain,” “Blade Runner,” “The Duelists,” “Exodus: Gods and Kings,” “G.I. Jane,” “Kingdom of Heaven,” “Legend,” “The Martian,” “Matchstick Men,” “Prometheus,” “Robin Hood,” “Someone to Watch Over Me” and “White Squall.”
