Rann utsav is a festival of Deserts with the full moon light is being celebrated this year in the Kutch lands of Gujarat. The Government of Gujarat hosts an annual 3 month long festival where people can see different sights of deserts and to know about the culture of Kutch and Gujarat. Rannutsav hosts activities such as Horse Rides, Camel Safaris to Bird Watching, Archery etc ans also exhibits various forms of handicrafts done by the people.
History of Rannutsav:
- The name “Rann” comes from the Hindi word ran (रण) meaning “desert”.
- The Great Rann of Kutch is a seasonal salt marsh located in the Thar Desert in the Kutch District of Gujarat, India and the Sindh province of Pakistan.
- This Desert is the largest salt desert in the world.
Kutch:
- Kutch is a district, located in the State of Gujarat.
- The district is also famous for ecologically important Banni grasslands with their seasonal marshy wetlands which form the outer belt of the Rann of Kutch.
- The language spoken predominantly in the Kutch district is Kutchi language and Gujarati.
- The distinctive folk dances and music, intricate arts and crafts along with the affluent handicraft culture of the district like folk textiles, exquisite embroidery, Bandhani sarees, traditional ornaments and mirror work are some of the specialties of Kutch.
