1) To do a certain piece of work B would take three times as long as A and C together and C twice as long as A and B together. The three men by their united exertions can complete the work in 10 days. How long would each take by himself?

a)20, 30, 30
b)24, 40, 30
c)24, 30, 25
d)30, 40, 20

Click to View Answer
Answer b)24, 40, 30

According to the question, 3 times B’s daily
work = (A + C)’s daily work.
Add B’s daily work to both sides.
4 times B’s daily work = (A + B + C)’s daily work = 1/10
B’s daily work = 1/40 …. (1)

Also, 2 times C’s daily work = (A + B)’s
daily work.
Add C’s daily work to both sides.
3 times C’s daily work = (A + B + C)’s daily work = 1/10

so, C’s daily work = 1/30…. (2)
Now A’s daily work 1/10 -(1/40+1/30) = 1/24 …. (3)
A, B and C can do the work in 24, 40
and 30 days respectively.

2)Mohan and Sohan working separately can dig a trench in 10 days and 12 days respectively. If they are working for 1 day alternately, Mohan beginning, in how many days will the trench be dug?

c)10 5/6 days
d)none of these.

Click to View Answer
Answer c)10 5/6 days

Mohan’s 1 day’s work = 1/10
Sohan’s 1 day’s work = 1/12
(Mohan and Sohan)’s 10 days’ working
alternately = 5*1/10 + 5*1/12 = 11/12
Remaining work = 1/12
Now 1/10 of work done by Mohan in 1 day.
so, 1/12 of the work done by Mohan in 1 × 10 × 1/12 days = 5/6 days
Hence, trench will be dug in
=10+5/6== 10 5/6 days.

3) A certain number of men can do a work in 60 days. If there were 8 men more it could be finished in 10 days less. How many men are there?
a)42
b)40
c)30
d)45

Click to View Answer
Answer b)40
The original number of men together with
8 men more can finish the work in (60 – 10 =) 50 days.
Now 8 men can do in 50 days what the original number of men can do in 10 days.
becoz In 50 days, a work is done by 8 men.
so, In 1 day, a work is done by (8 × 50) men.
so, In 10 days, a work is done by ( 8*50/10) = 40Men

a)10boys
b)15boys
c)12boys
d)14boys

Click to View Answer
Answer c)12boys
9 men = 18 boys

so, 2 women = 18/12*2 = 3 boys
now 3 men + 2 women + 3 boys
= 6 + 3 + 3 = 12 boys

5x+150 /8x+80 = 3/4
= 24x+240 = 20x+600
4x= 360
x= 90
original number of students
5x+8x=
13x= 13*90 = 1170
