1) A certain number of men can complete a piece of work in 40 days. If there were 8 men more the work could be finished in 10 days less. How many men were there afterwards?

Let the number of men be X.
X men can do a work in 40 days.
(x + 8) men can do the same work in (40 – 10 )days = 30 days
X × 40 = 30 (x + 8)
40 x = 30 x + 240
10x = 240
X = 24
The number of men afterwards = 24 + 8 = 32 men

2) A and B complete a piece of work in 5 days working together. If A had worked twice as fast the work would have been completed in 4 days. In how many days can A alone complete the work?
(a) 20 days
(b) 18 days
(c) 24 days
(d) 15 days

A’s 1 days work = 1/a
Let B do the work in b days
B’s days work = 1/b
1/a + 1/b = 1/5…..(i)
2/a + 1/b = 1/4…..(ii)
By solving (i) & (ii)
we get a = 20 days

3) Find the average of first 52 consecutive even numbers.

52 + 1 = 53.

4) A cricketer has completed 15 innings and his average is 20 runs. How many runs must he make in his next innings so as to raise his average to 25?

10 % water = 4 litres
90 % milk = 36 litres
Water must be added to make 20 % water
So there is no change in Milk
80 % milk is 36 litres
So, 100 % of new mixture is 45 litres.
In new mixture water is 45 – 36 = 9 litres
Water must be added in new mixture is
9 litres – 4 litres = 5 litres

7) Peter purchased a machine for Rs. 80,000 and spent Rs. 5000 on repair and Rs. 1000 on transport and sold it with 25 % Profit. At what price did he sell the machine?

Total spent 80000 + 5000 + 1000 = 86000.
Sold it 25 % profit,
25 % profit of 86000 is
Solve Capture18= 21500.
So selling price is 86000 + 21500 = 107500.

8) Sam purchased 20 dozens of toys at the rate of Rs. 375 per dozen. He sold each one of them at the rate of Rs. 33. What was his percentage profit?

20 dozen × 375 = 7500
Sells it 33 each of them
20 dozen means 240 toys
240 ×33 = 7920
