Chaudhary Charan Singh Award
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has presented the Chaudhary Charan Singh Award for Excellence in Journalism in Agricultural Research and Development, 2014 to journalist Gargi Parsai and five others. Parsai, currently working as Associate Editor with “The Hindu” newspaper has been writing on agriculture, food security, water resources and rural development in a career spanning 37 years.

Who is Chaudhary Charan Singh?
- Chaudhary Charan Singh was the Fifth Prime Minister of the Republic of India, serving from 28 July 1979 until 14 January 1980.
- Charan Singh entered politics as part of Independence Movement motivated by Mohandas Gandhi.
- Charan Singh left the Congress party in 1967 and formed his own political party, Bharatiya Kranti Dal.
