Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives in Bangladesh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on two-day visit to Bangladesh, has paid homage to the martyrs of the 1971 War of Liberation in Dhaka. He also visited the Bangabandhu memorial museum. Modi Ji was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Hazrat Shah-jalal International Airport by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He was given guard of honour. Modi and ‪‎Sheikh Hasina‬ flag off Bus services between India and Bangladesh in Dhaka.

India and Bangladesh have sealed a historic agreement that will settle a 41-year-old land boundary dispute through exchange of territories. The land Boundary Agreement was passed unanimously by the Parliament last month in the presence of Mr. Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina besides West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. A total 111 border enclaves will be transferred to Bangladesh in exchange for 51 that will become part of India. The agreement settles the question of citizenship for over 50,000 people.

The Reliance Power and Adani Enterprises have signed outline agreements with Bangladesh’s state-run electricity agency to invest some Rs. 32 thousand crores in the country’s rickety power sector.

An agreement for the regulation of motor vehicle traffic between the two countries and a protocol on operation of bus service between Kolkata-Dhaka-Agartala is expected.

Another protocol on Dhaka-Guwahati-Shillion will also be signed.
