Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the “Saur Sujala Yojana” in Chhattisgarh that would provide solar powered irrigation pumps to farmers at a subsidized price. Chhattisgarh would be the first state to implement the scheme.
- “The Centre is taking all necessary measures to promote farmers, villager and poor people,” Modi said while launching the scheme at Chhattisgarh’s foundation day function in Naya Raipur.
- Under the scheme, solar powered irrigation pumps of 3HP and 5HP capacity worth Rs 3.5 lakh and Rs 4.5 lakh respectively would be distributed to the farmers by March 31, 2019. The beneficiaries would get the pumps at the subsidised price.
- Chhattisgarh’s additional chief secretary (energy) N Baijendra Kumar informed that 51,000 farmers would be benefitted in the state with the launch of the scheme in next two years. The scheme will be given priority in those areas where electricity connection has not reached yet.
- The effect of the foundation that Chhattisgarh is laying (for the growth) and the schemes it is designing and implementing for the welfare of poor people will remain for the century.
- Modi dedicated the Jungle Safari, claimed to be the biggest man-made safari in Asia, in Naya Raipur. The safari is spread across 320 hectares of area. Modi said the Jungle Safari in Chhattisgarh would attract the tourists from across the country.
