PM Modi to launch National Skill Development Mission on July 15

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to launch the National Skill Development Mission on July 15′ 2015. Modi will unveil the new National Policy for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship on the very same day to mark the World Youth Skills Day. Recently the Union Cabinet cleared an institutional framework for the National Skills Mission. The cabinet also approved the first integrated national policy for developing skills and promoting entrepreneurship. The scheme has been named as Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY).

After Digital India, the main focus of the Modi government is Skilled India which has ambitious target of imparting skills to 30 crore people, one out of every four Indians, by 2020. The scheme will work as a three-tier mission.

  • At the top level, PM Modi will chair the committee and other ministers will be the members.
  • At the second level, a committee of secretaries will be headed by the minister, skill development and entrepreneurship.
  • At the third level there will be a committee of joint secretaries.

All the committees will work in close coordination with states departments engaged in skill development.  Skill Development Management System (SDMS) would be put in place to verify and record details of all training centres, a certain quality of training locations and courses.
