PM Modi holds talk with Tanzanian President

Welcome Tanzania President, Jakaya Kikweti!! Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikweti to India and said his visit will further cement the close and friendly ties between the two countries. Kikwete, accompanied by a high-level delegation including ministers and senior officials, arrived on a six-day visit during which he will hold talks with the Indian leadership on a range of bilateral, regional and international issues.

A media statement will also be issued on the outcome of the delegation level talks. Before the bilateral talks, the visiting Tanzanian President will be given the ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. He will also pay tribute to the father of Nation and lay wreath at his Samadhi at Rajghat. External affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will later call on the visiting President.

President Kikwete will also pay a day-long visit to Jaipur. The President will host a banquet in honour of the visiting guest. India and Tanzania have historically enjoyed close and friendly relations anchored in mutually beneficial commercial exchanges and extensive people-to-people contacts.

India is the largest trading partner of Tanzania in Africa with bilateral trade in 2013-14 being more than USD 4 billion.  There are over approximately 50,000 to 60,000 persons of Indian origin living and working in Tanzania and approximately 10,000 Indian expatriates.

 We have shared aspirations for inclusive economic development. We have a common interest in maritime security in the Indian Ocean and a peaceful and prosperous Africa,” he added. Prime Minister Modi also said that India and Tanzania share an emotional bond of shared history of struggle against colonialism.
