Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on January 23 hoisted the largest Tricolour on the country’s tallest flag post at Pahari Mandir in Ranchi. The event also coincided with the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
About the flag:-
- The flag is 66 ft in height, 99 ft in width and it is hoisted on a 293 ft tall pole.
- The flag has been created by 120 workers who have been working in two shifts for the last 40 days and the cost of the project is estimated to be around Rs 1.25 crore.
- It was hoisted last year. Until now Faridabad had the tallest National flag at the height of 246 feet.
- The National flag, weighing 80 kg, will remain hoisted 24-hours, as twenty sodium vapour lights will illuminate it during night.
What else??
- Addressing a group of school children at the Birsa Munda Stadium after unfurling the flag at Pahari Mandir, about a km away, Parrikar thanked Jharkhand and its Chief Minister Raghubar Das for giving him the splendid opportunity.
- Jharkhand Governor Droupadi Murmu, the chief minister, his cabinet colleagues and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
- Defence Minister also laid foundation stone online of a proposed Jharkhand Shakti Defence University at adjoining district of Ranchi-Khunti.
- Jharkhand is the third state in the country, which will have such University.
