Pratyaksha Hastaantarit Laabh (PAHAL) scheme is selected as the world’s largest cash transfer program by the Guinness Book of World Records. As on date, 13.9 crore LPG consumers have joined the PAHAL scheme. LPG consumers who join the PAHAL scheme will get the LPG cylinders at market price and receive LPG subsidy (as per their entitlement) directly into their bank accounts. This scheme has enabled substantive savings in subsidy.
- Government of India launched the `PAHAL’ Scheme in 54 districts of the country on November 15, 2014 and in remaining districts of the country on 1st January, 2015.
- The scheme entails giving households cash subsidy directly in their bank account so they can buy market priced cooking gas.
- Cash advance is transfered into the beneficiary account on first enrollment and another installment is given the moment it is used to buy a LPG refill.
- This scheme has enabled substantive savings in subsidy.
- LPG consumers who join the PAHAL scheme will get the LPG cylinders at market price and receive LPG subsidy (as per their entitlement) directly into their bank accounts
- The scheme was formally launched as Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme for LPG subsidy under the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
- It has been renamed as PAHAL in November 2014.
Process:
Under the scheme, the consumers have two options.
Such a consumer who joins the scheme will be called Cash Transfer Compliant (CTC) and he can receive subsidy in the bank account.
Option 1
With Aadhar: With Aadhar numbers, they will get the number linked to the bank account to receive the subsidy.
Option 2
Without Aadhar:
If a consumer does not have his Aadhar number, he can get the subsidy by linking his bank account with the LPG connection ID.This includes the 17 digit LPG consumer ID.
This can be done in two ways:
- The LPG distributor should get all bank details
- account holder’s name
- account number
- IFSC code
- All information will be captured in the LPG database.
- The bank should have all the information of the LPG connection of the consumer.
