Pachauri becomes TERI’s Executive Vice Chairman

Former chief of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) RK Pachauri has been appointed executive vice-chairman of the organisation despite an ongoing inquiry in a sexual harassment case against him. The post was recently created for Pachauri.

Ajay Mathur, former chief of Bureau of Energy Efficiency, has been appointed director general of Teri, the position held by Pachauri until the harassment complaint was filed by a junior colleague last year. Pachauri, who was also chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, had resigned as IPCC head following the FIR.

The governing council of TERI is chaired by scientist B V Sreekantan, and has Deepak Parekh, Naina Lal Kidwai and Hemendra Kothari among its members. Pachauri is also the founding director of Yale Climate and Energy Institute and honorary professor of the University of Eastern Finland.
