OP Kohli sworn-in as 26th Governor of Madhya Pradesh

Governor of Gujarat, Om Prakash Kohli, took oath of office as the 26th governor of Madhya Pradesh at Raj Bhavan After Ram Naresh Yadav’s tenure in office got over . Acting chief justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court, Rajendra Menon, administered the oath to Governor Kohli who has been assigned additional charge of Madhya Pradesh by President Pranab Mukherjee till a new Governor is appointed.

  •  The swearing-in ceremony was attended by chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, former chief ministers Sundarlal Patwa, Kailash Joshi and Babulal Gaur besides several cabinet ministers of the state government.
  •   Governor Kohli worked as lecturer of Hansraj College and Deshbandhu College for 37 years and retired as a reader in 1994. During his student days, he was a member of Delhi University Students Union and was national president of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad  for three terms. Later as lecturer, he was president of Delhi University Teachers’ Union and the National Democratic Teachers’ Front .
  •  Governor Kohli was arrested under MISA and spent 19 months in the jails in Delhi, Agra and Varanasi. After his retirement, OP Kohli was nominated to the Rajya Sabha when he was member of the standing committees on finance, urban and rural development. He was also president of Delhi state BJP for two terms from 1991-1995 and 2009- 2010.
  •  As national secretary of the BJP, he was in-charge of party affairs in the states of Jammu&Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan. He was appointed Governor of Gujarat shortly after the Narendra Modi NDA government came to power at the Centre. He was sworn-in as Gujarat Governor on July 16, 2014.
