Popular playback singer Dr KJ Yesudas has become one of the brand ambassadors of “Haritha Keralam” project in Kerala. The news was announced by State Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan after meeting the singer at Cliff House in Thiruvananthapuram. “The legendary singer Dr KJ Yesudas has agreed to become one of the brand ambassadors of Haritha Keralam project.

Ashish Vohra Appointed CEO Of Reliance Nippon Life Insurance

Ashish Vohra has been appointed as the head of Reliance Nippon Life Insurance. “The Board of Directors of Reliance Nippon Life Insurance (RNLI), a part of Reliance Capital, has announced the appointment of Ashish Vohra as the new CEO of the company. Before this, Vohra spent eight years with Max Life Insurance, serving as Senior Director and Chief Distribution Officer.

Prasar Bharati CEO Jawhar Sircar resigns

Prasar Bharati Corporation CEO Jawhar Sircar has submitted his resignation four months ahead of the end of his tenure, which was to draw to a close in February 2017. As per rules of the Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) Act, 1990, the CEO has to inform the administrative authority, which is the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, as he holds the office during the pleasure of the President of India.

Gujarat, Andhra 1st to declare urban areas Open Defecation Free

Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh became the first states to declare their urban areas as Open Defecation Free (ODF)on the second anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission. All 110 cities and towns in Andhra Pradesh were given the ODF tag by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at an event in Tirupati, while Gujarat gave ODF status to each of its 180 cities and towns at a function in Porbandar attended by Union Minister of Drinking Water and Sanitation Narendra Singh Tomar and Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

India’s GDP growth to remain 7.6% in 2016: World Bank

Ahead of the Reserve Bank of India’s first monetary policy review, the World Bank has said India’s GDP growth will remain robust at 7.6 per cent in 2016 and 7.7 per cent in 2017. According to the World Bank, Indian economic growth remained robust, which is expected to support continued poverty reduction, as in the past. The main challenges remain domestic, and include policy uncertainty as well as fiscal and financial vulnerabilities.

Repo rate cut by 25 basis points to six-year low

In the first monetary policy review under RBI Governor Urjit Patel, the interest rate has been cut by 0.25 per cent to six-year low of 6.25 per cent in a unanimous decision by the new rate-setting panel Monetary Policy Committee. The 6-member Monetary Policy Committee, headed by Patel, reduced repo rate or the short term rate at which central bank lends to banks, to 6.25 per cent.

Reliance, Dassault tie up for Rafale deal execution

Dassault Aviation of France has entered into a partnership with Reliance group to execute offsets for the recently concluded deal for 36 Rafale fighter jets. The joint venture called “Dassault Reliance Aerospace” was jointly announced by Dassault Aviation Chairman & CEO Eric Trappier and Reliance Group Chairman Anil Dhirubhai Ambani.

BRICS U-17 football tournament begins in Goa

India starts their campaign in the inaugural edition of the BRICS U17 football tournament against Russia at the Bambolim Stadium in Goa. The tournament will see Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa fight for the trophy.India will play Russia in the opening match at the GMC Stadium, Bambolim. The Indian colts are led by Nicolai Adam.

OBITUARY

Noted artist Yusuf Arakkal passed away

Noted artist Yusuf Arakkal passed away, The Kerala-born, Bengaluru-based artist was an alum of the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishad and also received training from Jaya Varma .His last exhibition (‘Faces of Creativity’) comprised a series of 135 portraits of personalities from the world of contemporary art that Arakkal worked on for over three years.
