ICICI brings in card-less mVisa

ICICI Bank has become the first institution worldwide to launch mVisa – a card-less and device-less solution the payments company is betting on in the mobile space. ICICI Bank has incorporated the mVisa application in its Pockets app, which allows payments to be made by scanning a static QR code and entering the amount.

NATO launches biggest military exercise since 2002

NATO launches its biggest military exercise since 2002, putting 36,000 alliance soldiers through their paces in Italy, Spain and Portugal to boost preparedness against the backdrop of the Ukraine crisis. “Trident Juncture” runs from October 3 through to November 6 and involves personnel from more than 30 countries. The exercise will also involve Canada, Norway, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, together with operations in the Atlantic and Mediterranean.

Sania Mirza-Martina Hingis win Wuhan Open women’s doubles title

Ace Indian tennis star Sania Mirza and her Swiss partner Martina Hingis are on winning spree, as the duo clinched its seventh title together by winning the Wuhan Open women’s doubles trophy. The top-seeded pair eased past the Romanian team of Irina-Camelia Begu and Monica Niculescu 6-2, 6-3 in the title clash. Sania and Hingis had it relatively easy in the second round, quarterfinals and semi-finals after getting a first round bye in the tournament.

Australian cricketing legend Lindsay Kline dies aged 81

Former Australian Test player Lindsay Kline has died at the age of 81. He was the man, who is best remembered for facing the last ball of the first tied Test match. Slow, left-arm spinner Kline, who took part in 13 Tests between 1957 and 1961, played 88 first-class matches in which he took 276 wickets at 27.39. He died on Friday, Australia’s cricketing authority said.

HDFC raises over Rs 10,000 cr through securities

Mortgage lender HDFC has raised about Rs 10,000 crore through mix of warrants and non-convertible debentures to qualified institutional investors. HDFC has alloted 3.65 crore warrants at an issue price of Rs 14 apiece, at an exercise price of Rs 1,475 per share. With the issuance of the warrants, HDFC has raised Rs 5,384 crore. Besides, it has raised Rs 5,000 crore through issuance of non-convertible debentures (NCDs).

Inaugural India – Indonesia Bilateral Maritime Exercise

The expanded version of the coordinated patrol (CORPAT), with the first ever bilateral India-Indonesia Bilateral Maritime Exercise, is scheduled from 17-18 Oct 15 in the Andaman Sea. INS Saryu, an indigenously built NOPV based at the Andaman and Nicobar Command, along with a Dornier Maritime Patrol Aircraft, shall participate in the 26th edition of the CORPAT.

India committed 35% emission reduction by 2030

India, the world’s third biggest greenhouse gas emitter, has pledged to source 40% of its electricity from renewable and other low-carbon sources by 2030. Campaigners welcomed the commitment to cut the “emissions intensity” of its economy – a ratio of carbon emissions per unit of GDP – by up to 35% by 2030.

India-Bangladesh electricity link backed by ADB with $120mn

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will finance India-Bangladesh electricity network with $120 million loan as a part of inter-connection project South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) Program

India became the World’s largest cotton producer 

According to data released by International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC), India became World’s largest cotton producer on 30th September 2015. India produced 6.51 mn tonnes cotton.
