1. Geeta, a deaf-mute girl who accidentaly crossed over to Pakistan returns after 15 yrs
Geeta, the young Indian woman living in Pakistan after she accidentally crossed the border 15 years ago when she was a child, is finally back home in India. Geeta’s flight from Karachi landed at Indira Gandhi National Airport in New Delhi around 10:40 am. She was just 7 or 8 years old when she was found sitting alone on the Samjhauta Express by the Pakistan Rangers 15 years ago at the Lahore railway station. She was adopted by the Edhi Foundation’s Bilquees Edhi and lived with her in Karachi. Bilquis and her grandchildren, Saba and Saad Edhi, are accompanying Geeta.

2. Maharashtra govt begins sale of Ayurvedic medicines
The Maharashtra government has started selling Ayurvedic medicines and herbal products derived from its forest produce. A first-of-its-kind shop was recently started in Nagpur by the state government under the ‘Van Dhan Jan Dhan’ scheme. The shop has sold products worth more than Rs 2 lakh within 25 days of its commencement.
Now, the government is starting two such shops at every airport and at every railway station across the state. The first ‘Van Dhan Jan Dhan’ shop recently started its operations with 45 various items on sale.

3. India-Africa Forum Summit begins today in New Delhi
The third India-Africa Forum Summit kicks off in the national capital. From October 26-29, ‘India-Africa Forum Summit’ is being organised. It is being organized at such a large scale for the first time in India. Heavy security has been put in place by the Delhi police ahead of the four-day summit. Almost one fourth of the force has been deployed to secure summit which is to be attended by the heads of 54 African nations.
The summit will address the key challenges faced by Africa, which includes food, health and environmental security. India hopes to create conditions that stimulate trade and investment flows between India and African countries.

4. China, Japan and South Korea to hold summit
China, Japan and South Korea will hold a summit in South Korea when Chinese Premier Li Keqiang visits, for the first such meeting since they were discontinued in 2012 due to tension dating back to World War Two. The summit would be on Nov. 1 in Seoul. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang visits, South Korea from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2.
South Korean President Park Geun-hye would meet Li on Oct. 31 in Seoul. The dates for the trilateral summit or Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s visit have not been announced.

5. ISB, Deakin University ink three year MoU for collaboration
Indian School of Business and Australia’s Deakin University have agreed to collaborate in research, teaching, student exchange programmes, internationalising curriculum, and developing innovative approaches to meet international accreditation standards. The Hyderabad-based private business school has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Melbourne-based university for a three-year partnership starting October 2015.

6. Indian-American farmer Anita Adalja to be honoured for exemplary agriculture work
Indian-American farmer, Anita Adalja is among 12 individuals from across the country who will be recognized as White House Champions of Change for sustainable and climate-smart agriculture at an event in the US. Anita Adalja, is social worker who merged her career with farming. Currently, she is working as a manager at the Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food and Agriculture.

7. India takes fresh guard to boost trade and economic ties
The slowdown in China provides India an opportunity to move deep into the African continent, strengthen business and economic ties. The India-Africa summit will be a perfect setting for business communities from India and African nations to explore areas of cooperation and provide a roadmap to their governments.
Economic and Trade relations between India and Africa have been on the slow track despite several Indian companies having a presence in the continent. The current trade is estimated around $75 billion. More than 165 Indian companies invested in Africa between January 2003 and July 2015 in telecom, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, healthcare and elsewhere.

8. Comedian Jimmy Morales wins Guatemalan presidential vote
Jimmy Morales, a former TV comedian who has never held office, swept to power in Guatemala’s presidential election after milking public anger over a corruption scandal that deepened distrust of the country’s political establishment. The 46-year-old Morales overwhelmingly beat center-left rival and former first lady Sandra Torres in a run-off vote despite his lack of government experience and some policy ideas that strike many as eccentric.

9. Poland elections: Conservatives secure decisive win
Poland’s opposition Law and Justice party – conservative and Eurosceptic – has won parliamentary elections. The party is expected to have enough seats to govern alone – something unprecedented in 26 years. Exit polls suggest it got 39% of the vote. Its leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski claimed victory, and the outgoing Prime Minister, Ewa Kopacz of the centrist Civic Platform, admitted defeat. Law and Justice (PiS) has strong support in poorer, rural areas.

10. Queen Elizabeth II invites Indian-origin engineer to palace
An Indian-origin structural engineer who helped build Europe’s tallest building, the Shard in London, has been invited to Buckingham Palace by Queen Elizabeth II. Roma Agrawal, 29, will join a group of other female engineers at a reception being hosted by the 89-year-old monarch to encourage more women to take up the profession. The palace has also released a photograph of the then Princess Elizabeth as a driver and mechanic in the Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War II.
