As the 85th Birthday anniversary of Late President “Missile- Man of India” APJ Abdul Kalam is being celebrated around the globe as the “World Student Day”. It was year 2010 when United Nations decided to mark the importance of India’s former President and great scientist APJ Abdul Kalam and declared his birthday as ‘World Students Day’.
- October 15, which is Dr. Kalam’s birth anniversary, is celebrated as a day for students all around the world. Even Dr. Kalam always expressed his wish to be remembered as a teacher by the people.
- APJ Abdul Kalam served as the President of India from July 25, 2002, and ended his term on July 25, 2007. He is a recipient of the Padma Bhusan in 1981, Padma Vibhushan in 1990 and India’s highest civilian award in 1997; the Bharat Ratna.
- When he served as the President, he came to be known as the “People’s President.” As the President, he once hosted 6000 farmers, and later invited 250 policemen to the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
- But most of all, he enjoyed speaking to the young and talented; the students who would admire him in awe when he spoke about his “Vision 2020”, the year, he believed India would finally become a developed nation.
- He would never let go of an occasion, where he could spread his message of development across. This was evident on the day of his customary farewell speech as the President when he turned a routine goodbye into a “I have a dream” address, laying down his vision of India by 2020.
