  1. Glanlugi Buffon Wins 2016 Gloden foot award

Juventus’ Gianluigi Buffon is the recipient of this year’s prestigious Golden Footaward. The 38-year-old accepted the award in Monaco and admits that the award isn’t the only piece of silverware he wants to lift this season. The Juventus legend was honoured with the award not only for his contributions on the field but his contributions for football off the field as well.

  1. Ajay Kumar Bhalla Appointed new DGFT

Senior IAS officer Ajay Kumar Bhallawas appointed as the Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). Bhalla, a 1984 batch IAS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre, is presently additional secretary in the commerce ministry. He has been appointed to the post in place of Anup Wadhawan, who has been appointed as additional secretary in the commerce ministry, an order issued by Department of Personnel and Training.

  1. Aruchal pradesh becomes 14th state where BJP is in government

The BJP in Arunachal Pradesh officially became a part of the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) government with the induction of senior BJP MLA Tamiyo Taga in the council of ministers. Arunachal Pradesh is now the 14th state having a coalition government. PPA government is a constituent partner of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA).

  1. India has 4ht highest number of Millionaires in Asia-pacific

India is home to the fourth-largest population of high net worth individuals (HNIs) in the Asia-Pacific, with total wealth of $797 billion, says a report. Asia-Pacific (APAC) is a region consisting of the whole of Asia as well as regions bordering the Pacific Ocean, especially the small nations of East Asia. The most commonly quoted figure for membership in the high net worth club is $1 million in liquid financial assets.

  1. Union Govt. to adopt three pronged approach to spur internal trade

The Centre has considered a three-pronged approach to revitalise India’s retail and wholesale trade. This includes establishing a regulatory body for national internal trade (retail and wholesale), a comprehensive domestic trade policy and a Board for Internal Trade. The strategy is likely to come up for discussions among ministries including finance and commerce & industry as well as the government’s policy think-tank NITI Aayog and the apex traders’ body — the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) — during meetings slated for this week and the next, according to sources privy to the development.

  1. Tuberculosis claimed 3 lives per minute in 2015: WHO

Tuberculosis is killing more people than thought, yet governments are not doing enough to bring the debilitating infectious disease under control, the World Health Organisation has said. The latest WHO figures show TB has been taking a much greater toll in India than previously believed. The diseaseclaims the lives of 1.8 million people worldwide each year, not the 1.5 million it was previously thought.

  1. Philippines invite UN to probe Drug related killings

The Philippines has sent an invitation to United Nations rapporteur Agnes Callamard to probe the increasing number of drug-related killings in the country. Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said the palace has sent the invitation to Callamard and is awaiting her response. The Philippine government is urging Callamard to also look into the killings of law enforcers, who were also killed in the campaign toeradicate illicit drugs.

  1. Jubilant gets USFDA nod for urinary incontinence durg

Jubilant Life Sciences has received the final approval from the US health regulator for Darifenacin Extended-Release Tablets, used for the treatment of urinary incontinence condition. The company has “received Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) final approval for Darifenacin Extended-Release Tablets, 7.5 mg and 15 mg, the generic version of Enablex of Allergan Plc, which is used for the treatment of urinary incontinence.

  1. New draft planet found in solar system beyond pluto

A new face has been added to the solar system’s family portrait, Scientists have discovered a new dwarf planet looping around the sunin the region beyond Pluto. The dwarf planet, called 2014 UZ224, measures about 330 miles (530 kilometers) across and is located about 8.5 billion miles (13.7 billion km) from the sun, on Oct. 11.

  1. Bank deposits to touch rs.100 lakh crore for the 1st time

Indian banks are staring at a deposit erosion of Rs 1.5-2 lakh crore between September and November as Foreign currency non-resident deposits (FCNR) mobilised in 2013 mature around that time. This could result in an acute liquidity shortage and a possible de-growth of balance sheets. At the deposit growth rate now, banks mobilise roughly Rs 2.4 lakh crore of deposits in three months.

  1. Yengkhom – First Indian to win gold in World Junior Wushu Championship

Manipur’s Jason Yengkhom has become the first Indian to win a gold medal in the World Junior Wushu Championships. Yengkhom won in the boys’ 52 kg Sanshou event at the 6th edition of the Championships in Bulgaria, beating China’s Jun Yang. India’s Thoudam Malemnganbi and Roshibina Naorem won a silver and a bronze respectively in their events at the Championships. In the world of Wushu, China ranks no. 1 and Iran no. 2 and are always taken to be unbeaten up until Jason’s feat.

OBITUARY

  1. Nobel Laureate Dario Fo passes away aged 90

Italian playwright and actor Dario Fo, who won the Nobel prize for literature in 1997, has died at the age of 90. Left-winger Fo, one of the leading figures in 20th century farce and political theatre, was best known for his works “Accidental Death of an Anarchist” and “Can’t Pay, Won’t Pay“.
