1. Green India Mission Plans of Four States Approved

The Green India Mission (GIM) falling under the Environment Ministry has approved annual plans for Kerala, Mizoram, Manipur and Jhakhand. The National Executive Council approved the Perspective Plans of all four states with a total financial outlay of Rs. 90,202.68 lakh for a plan period of five to ten years years along with Annual Plan of Operations of Rs. 11,195.32 lakh for this financial year.

2. October 13 – International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015

The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction is observed on 13 October. It encourages people and governments to participate in building more resilient communities and nations. Governments and communities also take part in the International Day for Natural Disaster Reduction through various events such as drawing, drama, essay or photography competitions that focus on making people aware of natural disaster reduction and increasing their preparedness for such situations.

3. World’s Best Multinational Workplaces 2015 survey

Of the 25 multinational companies on the list, 18 are based in the United States. The other seven companies are domiciled in Europe. The Top five are,

4. Malabar: India, US, Japan kick off naval drills, likely to annoy China

India, Japan and the United States will hold joint naval exercises each year, Indian government sources said, as the three countries kicked off the first such drills in the Bay of Bengal in eight years, a move likely to concern China. The last time New Delhi hosted multilateral drills in its waters in 2007 prompted disquiet in China where some saw it as a U.S. -inspired security grouping on the lines of NATO in Europe.

5. Cochin Shipyard Limited delivers Fast Patrol Vessel for Indian Coast Guard

The 15th vessel in the series of 20 Fast Patrol Vessel, ICGS Arinjay, has been delivered by the Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) to the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). The Protocol of Delivery and Acceptance was signed between Sunny Thomas, Director (Technical), CSL and Commanding Officer (Designate) of the vessel Commandant Ajay Kumar Mudgal. The vessel will be operated from the Coast Guard Station at Okha, Gujarat.

6. India-Israel sign pact on criminal matters

India and Israel have signed a pact to cooperate in criminal matters, including execution of summons and warrants by each other’s courts. The agreement was signed by the two countries days before the visit of President Pranab Mukherjee, who will tour Israel for three days. Under the pact, if a court in India executes any summons or search warrant receives from a court or magistrate in Israel, the central government will execute the order. While, India’s summons and warrants will be executed by Israel’s Ministry of Justice, India’s Ministry of Home Affairs will process the request of the Israeli government.

7. Roche launches new breast cancer drugs in India

Swiss biotechnology major Roche has launched two new medicines in India for treating breast cancer that seek to increase longevity for patients and improve their quality of life. The drug maker is also taking steps to ensure the medicines are easily available to those in need. The new drugs, ‘Perjeta’ and ‘Kadcyla’, have been shown to both extend survival and improve quality of life in their approved applications for metastatic HER2-positive breast cancer.

8. ‘Modi Express’ bus launched in UK

Indian community groups in the UK have launched a ‘Modi Express’ bus for a month-long tour around iconic landmarks here to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s maiden visit to the country next month.
The bus, which was launched on Sunday (October 11), made its first stop at Ealing Road, Wembley also known as ‘Little India’, followed by Trafalgar Square to celebrate Diwali.

9. TN Govt honours Dr Shanthi Ranganathan

Tamil Nadu government has honoured Dr Shanthi Ranganathan with its ‘Avvaiyaar Award’ for 2015. She has been honored for her contribution in rehabilitating persons addicted to alcohol and helping their families for over three decades. Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa gave away the award to Ranganathan. She has been honoured for her 33 years contribution towards rehabilitating persons addicted to liquor and their families. She was presented with a cash reward of Rs one lakh, 8 gm gold medal and a certificate.

10. Veteran filmmaker I.V. Sasi honoured with J.C. Daniel Award

Celebrated filmmaker IV Sasi has been chosen for the prestigious JC Daniel award for 2014, instituted by Kerala government, in recognition of his sterling contributions to the Malayalam film industry. The honour, which comprises a purse of Rs one lakh and a citation, is hosted by Kerala State Chalachitra Academy. A multiple national and state award winner, Sasi has directed around 150 films in a number of languages over an illustrious career spanning four decades.

11. India signed contract for microlight aircrafts with Slovenian firm Pipistrel

India has signed a contract with a Slovenian firm for 194 microlight aircraft to be used by Indian Air Force, the Navy and the National Cadet Corps (NCC). The contract has been signed with Pipistrel for ‘Virus FW80’. The Indian version of the aircraft will be known as ‘Garur’. The deal is valued at Rs 105.5 crore.

12. Reliance Power appoints N Venugopala Rao as CEO

The Anil Ambani-led Reliance Power announced that it has appointed N Venugopala Rao as its CEO with immediate effect. Prior to this appointment, Rao was CEO of Sasan Power Ltd, a fully owned subsidiary of Reliance Power, which has developed the Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP). Consequent upon the appointment, Rao will also cease to be the Chief Executive Officer of Sasan Power Limited, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Reliance Power.

13. Vikram Gokhale to receive Vishnudas Bhave Award

Veteran actor Vikram Gokhale will be conferred with the prestigious Vishnudas Bhave Award at a ceremony in Sangli of Maharashtra on November 2015. Gokhale, 67, is a noted Marathi theatre actor and has acted in several Hindi films. He will be honoured on eve of ‘Marathi Rangbhumi Din’ for his outstanding contribution to Marathi theatre. Dr Sharad Karale, president of Akhil Maharashtra Natya Vidya Mandir Samiti, Sangli, made the announcement today. Prominent actress-singer Faiyaz Shaikh will present the award.

14. Kerala to host All Lights India Int’l Film Festival

Kerala will host the All Lights India International Film Festival (ALIIFF) 2015 and Indywood Film Market (IFM) at Kochi from November 15 to 21. ALIIFF 2015 is a unique platform for the global film industry to portray excellence in film making, and interact with artistes and technicians of world cinema, according to the organisers.  IFM is a platform for South Asia’s largest Film Market, which will facilitate production and distribution deals of international films in the Indian market and sales of Indian Cinema to the international market.

15. Shweta wins silver in Asian bodybuilding champ’ship

Shweta Rathore became the first Indian female bodybuilder to win a silver medal in the 49th Asian championship, recently held in Uzbekistan. Shweta, an engineer by qualification, won silver in the Women’s Fitness Physique category and qualified for the World Championship, to be held in Thailand in November.  Shweta is on Judge Panel of Body power Expo 2015 and runs an academy — Fitness Forever.

16. Jayakumar takes over as MD and CEO of Bank of Baroda.

PS Jayakumar, the former chief executive of VBHC Value Homes, today took charge as the new MD and CEO of the state-owned Bank of Baroda for three years. The bank is under the scanner for an alleged black money transactions worth over Rs. 6,000 Crores. It was alleged that a whopping Rs 6,172 crore was remitted from Bank of Baroda to Hong Kong camouflaged as payments for non-existent imports like cashew, pulses and rice. The amount was allegedly deposited in 59 accounts in cash as advance for imports that never existed.

17. Telenor appointed Sharad Mehrotra as India CEO

Sharad Mehrotra has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Telenor India. Mehrotra will succeed Vivek Sood who has been appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of the Telenor Group. Mehrotra was earlier Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of Telenor Myanmar, where he has played a key role in the successful launch of Telenor’s mobile services.

18. Jioji Konrote becomes Fiji’s next President.

Fiji’s parliament has elected Jioji Konrote as the Pacific island country’s next president. In the presidential election held in parliament, Konrote, nominated by the ruling FijiFirst party, garnered 31 votes, while the opposition’s candidate Ratu Epeli Ganilau received 14 votes.

19. Bangladesh to set up textile park in Gujarat

Bangladesh will set up textile park in Gujarat.  In the beginning, the park will have spinning units with cumulative capacity of 1 lakh spindles. Bangladesh has sought around 100 acres of land from the state government for the project.  Representatives of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Bangladesh Cotton Association and Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association visited Gujarat

20. Gujarat proposed 15375 crore rupees AMRUT Plan to ensure basic infrastructure in 31 mission cities

The Gujarat Government has proposed a 15375 crore rupees comprehensive action plan to ensure basic infrastructure in 31 cities under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) in the next five years. Out of this proposed amount, 42 percent will be spent on providing water supply connections to all urban households in 31 AMRUT cities, 30 percent will be spent on providing sewerage connections to all households and 12 percent will be spent on ensuring drainage services and the rest on urban transport and provision of green spaces and parks.
