Ramkumar Raman – Indian boy in UAE becomes youngest ACCA affiliate
Ramkumar Raman, an 18-year-old Indian boy in the UAE has become the youngest affiliate with a global body for professional accountants. A graduate from the Indian High School, Dubai, Ramkumar Raman has to complete three years of qualified work experience in order to attain the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) membership.
CITI Elects Naishadh Parikh as Chairman
Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) has announced leadership changes with election of Naishadh Parikh as its new Chairman and Binoy Job as its Secretary General. Naishadh Parikh brings with him more than 35 years of experience in diverse industries including textiles. Mr Parikh is a member of Board of Governors of Ahmedabad University and CEPT University. Binoy Job takes over from D K Nair, who is retiring after 16 years of service as Secretary General of CITI.
MF Farooqui appointed Broadband Forum Chairman
Former telecom secretary MF Farooqui has been appointed chairman of Broadband India Forum (BIF) that works on enhancing broadband potential in the country. He has replaced ex-telecom secretary Shyamal Ghosh who has been appointed Chairman Emeritus of BIF. Former resident director-Regulatory Affairs at Vodafone India was elected as President at the eighth Annual General Meeting of BIF.
GOI to launch ‘M Cessation’ to help kick tobacco habit
The GOI will soon offer a mobile phone-based intervention to tobacco users where they will be counselled to kick the habit. The Union Health Ministry will launch M Cessation or Mobile Cessation to develop tobacco use abstinence among people interested in quitting. As part of the programme, tobacco users can enroll themselves by giving a missed call to a particular phone number after which they will be asked three to four questions through SMS like their educational qualifications, work status and the age of onset of tobacco use.
PM lays foundation stone of two Metro corridors in Mumbai
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of two elevated Metro corridors in Mumbai– Dahisar-D N Nagar and Dahisar-Andheri (east) route. Speaking on the occasion Prime Minister said, “Port sector needs to be expanded, strengthened, developed, and advanced if India has to emerge as a global leader.” Prime Minister further said, coastal States need to work together to develop the port sector. Prime Minsiter also reiterated that for environmental friendly development, mass-transport mechanisms are imperative.
Mr. Modi says Constitution Day will be celebrated on November 26 and all schools will celebrate the ‘Samvidhan Divas’.
Legendary Tamil actress Manorama passed away
Legendary Tamil actress Manorama has passed away following a heart attack at the age of 78. She is survived by her son Boopathi. A versatile actress, Manorama had acted in over 1,200 Tamil films, rubbing shoulders with top stars like MGR and Sivaji Ganesan in a brilliant career spanning over six decades.
BoB Forex Scam: CBI Raids 50 More Locations
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has raided 50 more locations in connection with BOB Forex Scam in north Delhi branch’s alleged foreign exchange act violation worth over Rs. 6,000 crores. The key figures involved in the crime have been identified and the suspects are being interrogated. Most addresses given by firms involved in the case were found to be false.
President inaugurates Mahatma Gandhi street in Jordanian capital Amman
President Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday inaugurated a street in the capital city of Jordan named after Mahatma Gandhi. A part of the Saddzagloul Street has been named the Mahatma Gandhi Street which after two intersections retains its old name which honours the Egyptian movement leader.
India and Maldives ink two MoUs
The 5th India-Maldives Joint Commission meet led by Foreign Minister SushmaSwaraj & Maldives Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon began in Maldives. The two countries discussed cooperation in defence & security, trade & development partnership, connectivity, health, energy, HRD, culture & tourism.
India and Maldives also signed two MoUs on cooperation between Foreign Service Institutes and on Cooperation in Sports & Youth Affairs.

Vodafone wins transfer pricing tax dispute case
Vodafone India won its battle against the income-tax department over transfer pricing in the Bombay High Court, which set aside the appellate tribunal’s ruling that had gone against the telecom company. The verdict was cause for optimism among multinationals mired in similar, long-running disputes that India will come good on its pledge to improve the investment climate by moving away from an adversarial tax regime.
Nepal Prime Minister Sushil Koirala resigns
Koirala submitted his resignation to President Ram Baran Yadav who accepted it and asked him to conduct daily administrative functions till a new government is formed. The Nepal parliament is all set to elect a new prime minister with the Maoists and the pro-monarchy Rashtriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal joining hands in support of K P Oli, chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML).
Proneeta Swargiary crowned winner of ‘DID 5’
Delhi girl Proneeta Swargiary has won the fifth season of reality show Dance India Dance (DID). The 22-year-old girl walked away with the coveted Sunheri Taqdeer Ki Topi title after beating Nirmal Tamang from Nepal and Jodhpur boy Sahil Adaniya. This was not her first attempt on DID, she had earlier auditioned for season two of the ZeeTV show but could not make it.
