RJio sets ‘world record’ at 1.6 crore users in first month

Reliance Jio has claimed that it has created “a world record” by crossingthe 16 million subscriber mark in its first month of operations — September. Jio, a new entrant in the4G market, has achieved this growth faster than any other telecom operator or start-up in the world, including the likes of Facebook, WhatsApp and Skype, Reliance Jio Infocomm said in a release.

Oliver Hart, Bengt Holmstrom win Nobel Prize for Economics

British-American economist Oliver Hart and Bengt Holmstrom of Finlandhave won the Nobel Economics Prizefor their work on contract theory. TheRoyal Swedish Academy of Sciencessaid the pair won for their work on contractual theory, and that their work focussed on contracts like insurance claims, property rights and salaries.

Screening of oral, cervix cancer to be mandatory from November

The Government of India has prepared operational guidelines for the screening and management of Cancer in the country. Starting from November, the Union Health Ministry has made mandatory screening of oral, cervix and breast cancer for male and female above the age of 30. In the first phase, the ministry has identified 100 districts in the country which will be participating in the cancer prevention programme. The first project will start in Agartala in November and then the government will take it forward.

Sikkim to promote Kanchendzonga as eco-tourism destination

The Sikkim government has formulated plans in association with the Indian Mountaineering Federation (IMF) to start circumambulation tours in the periphery of Mt Kanchendzonga, located at 28,169 feet.  India’s highest mountain peak Mount Kanchendzonga and Kanchendzonga National Park, recently declared a world heritage site, will be promoted as eco-tourism destinations for trekking, mountaineering and other adventure activities.

World Mental Health Day: 10th October

World Mental Health Day is observed on 10 October every year, with the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health. The theme of this year’s World Mental Health Day,  covers “psychological first aid” will enable us to contribute to the goal of taking mental health out of the shadows so that people in general feel more confident in tackling the stigma, isolation and discrimination that continues to plague people with mental health conditions, their families and carers.

Ethiopia declares emergecy over anti-government protests

The unrest has cast a shadow overEthiopia, whose state-led industrial drive has created one of Africa’s fastest growing economies but whose government also faces criticism at home and abroad over its authoritarian approach to development. Ethiopia declared a state of emergency after more than a year of unrest in its Oromiya and Amhara regions, near the capital Addis Ababa, where protesters say the government has trampled on land and other political rights.

The 6th BRICS Science & Technology Senior Official Meeting (SOM) was organized at Jaipur.

India will host the 8th BRICS Summit, in Goa on 15-16 October 2016 during its Chairmanship of BRICS, which itassumed on 15 February 2016.). The meeting was chaired by the Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr. Harsh Vardhan. As the precursor the same, the 4th BRICS Science, Technology and Innovation Ministerial Meeting was convened on 8 October, 2016 at Jaipur to further strengthen the collaboration amongst the BRICS countries in the areas of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI).

India’s first Medipark will be set up in Tamil Nadu

The Union government gave its nod to HLL Lifecare to sub-lease over 300 acres of land in Chennai to set up the country’s first medical devices manufacturing park. The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave its nod to the Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Health Ministry to sub-lease 330.10 acres of land at Chengalpattu near Chennai to set up the Medipark through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) with shareholding of HLL at 50 percent.

Jitu Rai wins ISSF Pistol Champions Trophy

India’s ace pistol shooter Jitu Rai has won the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Champions Trophy. Jitu beat Serbia s Damir Mikec, 29.6 to 28.3 in the final, held in the 10m Air Pistol finals format to claim the Euro5000 cash award which comes with the title. The ISSF Rifle ChampionsTrophy was claimed by Russia s Sergey Kamenskiy.

Mercedes’s Nico Rosberg wins Japanese Grand Prix

Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg win the Japanese Grand Prix and widen his lead in the Formula One drivers’ championship.Hamilton, who started second, made another of the poor starts which has been among Mercedes few weak points this season, and dropped back to eighth on the opening lap. It was Rosberg’s ninth victory of the season and 23rd in F1, moving the Gterman driver into a tie for 12th place on the all-time list with Nelson Piquet. Rosberg started the previous two races at Suzuka from pole position only to be overtaken by Hamilton.
