Sprinter Arabani Nanda wins Akalabya Award

Ace sprinter and Olympian Srabani Nanda will be conferred with the prestigious 24rd Ekalavya award for the year 2016. Apart from this, twohockey players Deep Grace Ekka and Dipsan Tirkey will also be felicitated. Ekalavya Award is awarded by Government of Karnataka for the outstanding performance in Life time Achievement in sports.

Luo Zhaohui, china’s new ambassador to India

Chinese President Xi Jinping has appointed Luo Zhaohui as China’s new ambassador to India, in accordance with a decision from the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, the top legislature. He is familiar with India as he worked as third and later Second Secretary in Chinese Embassy in India from 1989 to 1993.

Alibaba affiliate Ant Financial names new CEO

Alibaba Group Holding’s financial affiliate has appointed a new chief executive officer as it prepares for a highly anticipated 2017 initial public offering. Zhejiang Ant Small & Micro Financial Services Group named finance veteran and President Eric Jingto take the helm from Lucy Peng. The management shuffle comes as Ant Financial is said to plan an IPO in Hong Kong next year, which could be one of the city’s biggest debuts since 2010.

Tendulkar 1st sportsman to be made ‘Group Captain’ of IAF

Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar was honoured by being made an Honorary Group Captain of the Indian Air Force at the 83rd Indian Air Force Day celebrations at the Hindon Air Base. The Master Blaster, now retired from international cricket, thus became the first sportsperson to be made an Honorary Group Captain in the Indian Air Force.

Petroleum Ministe launches LPG scheme PMUY in Maharashtra

Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) in Maharashtrato provide free LPG connections to BPL households. The move will benefit 91 lakh households living below the poverty line in Maharashtra over the next three years. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis who was also present gave away free LPGconnections to 10 women from BPL families.

India host confernce on Diaster management Reduction

India will host the Asian ministerial conference for disaster risk reductionwhich will focus on partnership with governments and stakeholders toimbibe the practices in the region’s development narrative. This is the first AMCDRR after the advent of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRRR), adopted at the third UN World Conference in Sendai, Japan in March, 2015. It will set the direction of Sendai Framework implementation in the region.

Bathukamma Event Enters Guinness Book of World record

Telangana state festival ‘Bathukamma’entered the Guinness Book of World Records as 9,292 women participated in the ceremony at L.B. Stadium that was also attended by Tennis star Sania Mirza. They achieved this feat despitebad weather and as they danced around bathukamma (flower stack, arranged with different unique seasonal flowers most of them with medicinal values).

India’a First International arbitration center inaugurated by Devendra Fadnavis

Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated India’s firstcentre for international arbitration in Mumbai. The Mumbai Centre for International Arbitration (MCIA) willinitially be located at Express Towers but Fadnavis promised a bigger and exclusive facility at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai’s only business district.

October 8: Indian Air Force day

The 84th anniversary of the Indian Air Force (IAF) was celebrated with traditional pomp and gaiety at the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla near Pune. The IAF is theworld’s fourth largest air force with a primary responsibility to secure Indian airspace and to conduct aerial warfare during a conflict.

 World Post Day: 9 October

World Post Day is celebrated each year on 9 October. The event was declaredby the 1969 Universal Postal Congress in Tokyo as a means to mark theanniversary of the Universal Postal Union’s (UPU) creation in 1874.

The purpose of World Post Day is to bring awareness to the Post’s role in the everyday lives of people and businesses, as well as its contributionto global social and economic development.

UN ratifies 1st ever pact to curb aircraft emissions

The United Nations has ratified an agreement to curb the aircraft emissions, the first such pact to set worldwide limits on a single industry. The pact, adopted by 191 nations, sets the countries’ airline emission in 2020 as their ‘allowed discharge’ limit. Airlines which will emit in excess will have to buy carbon credits to compensate for the discharge.

Wrestler Bajrang Punia wins Mayor’s Trophy gold for India

Freestyle wrestler Bajrang gave India the first gold medal of the Pune Mayor’s Trophy International Invitational Wrestling competition by beating Mongolia’s Batchuluun Batmagnai 6-4 in the Men’s 65-kg category final. The competition was held at the Late Rajaram Bhiku Pathare Primary School’s Vithoba Maruti Pathare Indoor Stadium.

Murray wins China Open to secure 5th title of the year

Top-ranked British tennis player AndyMurray defeated Bulgaria’s GrigorDimitrov 6-4, 7-6  to win his fifth title of the year at the China Open. With the win, Murray took his season’s record to 59-9. Earlier, British number one and newly instated world number 10 Johanna Konta was beaten 6-4, 6-2 by Agnieszka Radwanska in the women’s final.

India wins two golds, one silver at Russian Open

India’s 19-year-old shuttler Ruthvika Shivani Gadde won the women’s singles title at the Russian Open in Vladivostok . Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy added to India’s tally by winning the mixed doubles title at the event. Meanwhile, 17-year-old Siril Verma lost out on the gold medal after a three-set defeat to the top-seeded Malaysian Zulfadli Zulkiffli.
