NTPC to take over DVC’s bengal project

NTPC is taking over the Raghunathpur project of DVC, once the powerhouse of the east with a capacity of 5,800 mw end due to years of bad management. A meeting has been scheduled of NTPC and DVC managements on the terms and conditions for taking over the project located in Purulia district of Bengal.

There are 2 phase of development- The first phase has two units of 600 mw each, while the second phase consists of two units of 660 mw. Only one unit of first phase is operational. The second unit is not working because of the absence of infrastructure for water and coal supply.

NTPC is expected to come in with money and project skill. It recently took over the Patratu plant in Jharkhand and revamped the Kanti plant in Bihar.
