Central Hikes MSP of Dal’s by 250/Quintal
In order to support the farmers, the Centre on 5th November 2015 hiked the price for masoor and gram dals sharply by Rs 250 a quintal each to boost production in the ongoing rabi season.
Apart from raising the minimum support price (MSP) of pulses, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved a bonus of Rs 75 per quintal for gram and masoor dals over and above the support price. has been increased by Rs 75 to Rs 1,525 a quintal for the 2015-16 from 1450 a Quintal last year.
Bernie Sanders introduces legislation to end federal ban on marijuana
Bernie Sanders introduced legislation on 4th November 2015 that would end the federal prohibition on marijuana, removing the drug from the federal government’s list of the “most dangerous” substances. Under Sanders’ plan, marijuana would not automatically become legal. Rather, states would have the right to decide whether or not they want to legalize the drug – without fear of federal impediment. His bill would not permit the transportation of marijuana across state lines.
Australian scientists identify way to target neuroblastoma cancer
Australian scientists have identified a critical molecular ‘feedback loop’ that helps initiate and cure neuroblastoma. It is a cancer of the nervous system in children that is developed in embryonal nerve cells. The research team was able to identify an experimental drug, which was currently in clinical trials for adult cancer, with the potential to interrupt the loop and halt tumour progression. This feedback loop massively accelerates cancer development.
RBI includes Bandhan Bank in second schedule list
Reserve Bank on November 5, included Bandhan Bank in the second schedule list. The newly launched bank now is eligible for loans from the central bank at bank rate. Bandhan Bank Limited has been included in the Second Schedule to the ReserveBank of India Act, 1934. A scheduled bank is eligible for loans from the RBI at bank rate. They are also given membership to clearing houses. Besides, Industrial Bank of Korea and Korea Exchange Bank Co Ltd have been included in the second schedule.
French intellectual Rene Girard passed away
French intellectual Rene Girard passed who is also known as the new Darwin away on 4 November 2015 due to a prolonged illness in the United States. He was 91.
Girard was an eminent writer, he authored around 30 books including Deceit, Desire and the Novel , Violence and the Sacred and Things Hidden Since the Foundation of the World and Achever Clausewitz (2007).
RBI imposes Rs 1 crore penalty on Dhanlaxmi Bank
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed Rs 1 crore penalty on Dhanlaxmi Bank for violation of Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti Money Laundering (AML) norms. It had issued a Show Cause Notice to the bank for not complying with KYC and AML guidelines in respect of a current account under investigation of the Economic Offences Wing (EOW).
